History 2
Syllabus
Course Description
U.S. History 1 is a one-year, two-semester course that is required for graduation (meaning you
have to pass this class!). This course will cover United States history from 1877-Present. Topics
covered in this course are:
Semester 1
Unit 1: Progressivism and Imperialism
Unit 2: World War I and the 1920s
Unit 3: The Great Depression
Semester 2
Unit 4: World War II and the Fifties
Unit 5: The Cold War
Unit 6: Social Reforms of the 60s and 70s
Unit 7: The 80s and 90s
Unit 8: The Post 9/11 Era
Assessments
At the end of each semester, students will be assessed through the form of a writing prompt. We
will discuss the assessment procedures throughout the course of the semester, as we move
forward throughout the year.
Course Objectives
Chronological Reasoning: By the end of this course, students will be able to describe cause and
effect as well as describe historical continuity and change over time by analyzing sources and
using evidence.
Contextualization: By the end of this course, students will be able to evaluate how historical
events are relevant to broader national events.
Historical Argumentation: By the end of this course, students will be able to create a clear thesis
and provide relevant historical evidence and descriptions as well as describe alternative
arguments.

Final Exam will be worth 15% of your grade and will not be figured in to your grade until the final
week of the semester.
Extra credit will be offered throughout the semester at the discretion of your teacher(s). Please
take advantage of these opportunities, as these will be the only time you can earn extra credit.
Assignment Procedures
1. All assignments and class work can be found at mrwallacehistory1-2.weebly.com.
2. We will follow the school policy regarding late work. Assignments for 10th grade students can
turn in work for up to 80% credit until 10 days after the next grade report.
3. All assignments must include the following information at the top:
NAME
HOUR
DATE
ASSIGNMENT NAME
4. Assignments with no name will be placed in the no name folder for up to two weeks. Check this
folder first if you do not get your assignment back or if you received a zero in the grade book.

Class Procedures/Expectations
All electronic devices must be turned off and put away before the bell rings. We will follow the
school policy for any violations of this rule.
Students are expected to be in their seats when the bell rings. Refer to the board for daily
directions and activity.
Have any assignments from the previous day out and ready to be collected.
When the bell rings, students are expected to be quietly working on the daily assignment.
