Abstract. In this paper it is tried to simulate the dam body and its foundation by
ABAQUS FEM software under plane strain condition. Elasto-plastic model is used for
material behavior. The dam analysis has been accomplished in three stages: under
construction, impounding and dynamic loading. Gelevard CFR dam located in north of
Iran has been considered as a case study to analyze subjected to seismic ground motion.
The results indicate that there is no problem concerning the settlement specially during
the first impounding but the slab rupture under the earthquake loading is probable and
therefore some actions should be taken in dam design construction process.
