To Whom It May Concern:
Since the beginning of May this year, Shelbi Crews has been interning for the Clyatt House Learning Center. The Clyatt
House is a family run daycare center in Chiefland, FL. Each member of the staff is family oriented and tries to keep in
contact with each parent of their students. Shelbi, who is also a former employee and teachers assistant at the Clyatt
House Learning Center, returned to the business in May and suggested a means for improvement of our parent-teacher
relations.
When she began work at the Clyatt House in February of 2013, she was a senior in high school, preparing to graduate with
her associates degree prior to graduating high school. Her work ethic propelled her through school and made her a vital
component of the staff at the daycare. She resigned from her teaching assistant position in August of 2013 to attend
Florida State University.
When Shelbi contacted me in April and proposed her internship idea, I was delighted. As part of her internship she
suggested that I bring her on as a Public Relations team member. Her primary job would be to meet individually with
teachers in each of the five classrooms to construct a newsletter from the lesson plans the teachers created for the week.
At the beginning of each week, we distributed the newsletter accordingly to the parents of each student to keep them
updated on the events and activities taking place each week. As with any educational center, we have a very busy
environment. Shelbis ability to help maintain our communication channels between teacher and our parents proved to be
a great asset to our school while also allowing us to focus on other business activities as well. Later in the summer, Shelbi
took on editing the Employee Handbook to make it more reader-friendly and easier understood.
Each week, Shelbi spent at least 12 hours interning for the daycare. Due to the distance, a lot of the conferences with
teachers took place via Skype and her work was done on her own time and e-mailed back to the daycare weekly.
Depending on the workload and plans of the week, her hours varied from 12 hours weekly, to nearly 20 hours weekly.
Shelbis work proved exemplary and beneficial to the company during her summer internship. Although there had never
been a position for the work Shelbi has done, the daycare management team is contemplating creating a position to
further encourage and maintain additional open channels of communication between our staff and customers.
Sincerely,
