Psychology Reflection and Psychological Disorders

This semester, learning about Psychology has been awesome.

Psychology is very interesting because it governs how people think,
act, and live. In this day in age, communication and just interacting
with others is an everyday thing, so we can use what we know about
others to help us. The better we understand things like Psychology,
the more seamless our efforts in life can be. Everyone has a brain and
most of us like learning about it. I learned a lot about all kinds of topics
in society and most of them were interesting and stimulating. The
concept I want to discuss and that I really relate to is Psychological
disorders.
Some of the things I thought were most interesting were the
science of behavioral conditioning. the biological perspective of our
brains, memory, and personality. It seems so basic how we learn until
you look really deep at how it really works. Learning the biological
spectrum of our brains was also very cool. Our brains are incredibly
complex and learning about some of the synapses and systems inside
our body really makes you think twice about how you perceive these
parts of the body and brain.

The topic I want to discuss that is most interesting and relative to

me is the topic of psychological disorders. Psychological disorders are
clinically significant behavioral or psychological syndrome or pattern
that occurs in an individual. There are many psychological disorders
such as depression, anxiety disorders, bi polar, schizophrenia,
obsessive-compulsive disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder.
Psychological disorders are also very common. About 27% of
Americans over the age of 18 have a psychological disorder. A lot of
psychological disorders are directly related to anxiety but in a way,
anxiety helps protect us. Not all psychological disorders are similar so
it is hard to define them all at once. They are noticed because of
abnormality. If someone seems abnormal they usually see a doctor to
diagnose or not to diagnose a condition. Someone with bipolar
disorder may have huge mood swings and someone with schizophrenia
may have hallucinations and can be in a different state of mind or
altered reality.
I myself have been diagnosed with schizo-effective disorder
which is a form of schizophrenia and insanity. I was diagnosed when I
was 17 and it was due to a chemical imbalance in my brain and it was
also drug induced. I learned in this class how people may think about
my condition or how normal people perceive these conditions. It was
good for me to hear about my condition from an instructor rather than
a doctor and have it all applied just to me. I think this can benefit

others to know how to treat people with these disorders, and how to
deal with an individual who seems, abnormal. If people are more
educated about these conditions we can find treatment earlier, which
can potentially save a persons life.
