Word a Day

Read or write the word and definition.

o Students will be told the part of speech.
o The word and the definition will be written on a piece of paper or on the board,
posted for the students to see.
o Students may keep a personal dictionary of these words in their notebooks.
The students will than listen to a sample sentence.
As a class, we will engage in a discussion about the word. The students will listen to the
sample the questions and possible answers. We will discuss the answers and which

answer makes the most sense.

o The sentence is a practical application for the word.
Students will answer the questions in the book either in their notebook or in a discussion.
o Students can use the questions as a writing prompt of a topic of discussion.
The questions ask the students to share an idea, opinion or personal
experience.
