process standards to classify two-dimensional figures by attributes and

properties. The student is expected to classify two-dimensional figures
in a hierarchy of sets and subsets using graphic organizers based on
their attributes and properties

TRANSFORMATION:
The original shape of the object is called the pre-

image and the final shape and position of the object

is the image under the transformation. Types of
transformations in math are Translation,
Reflection, and point Rotation.

TRANSLATION:
Translation is a term used in geometry to describe a

function that moves an object a certain distance. The object

is not altered in any other way. It is not rotated, reflected or
re-sized. In a translation, every point of the object must be
moved in the same direction and for the same distance.

EXAMPLE:
This example is
small, but it is a
translation of a
triangle of 4 right,
and 1 left.

REFLECTION:
A Reflection is a transformation in which the figure

is the mirror image of the other.

EXAMPLE OF A REFLECTION

reflection on
the x-axis.

ROTATION:
A circular movement.
Rotation has a central point that stays fixed and everything

else moves around that point in a circle.
