Outside Reading - 10%

10% of the English grade is earned by reading at least 250
pages per semester outside of class time. This is an all or
nothing grade. Students can read anything they choose,
as long as the number of pages read total 250 each
semester. To earn credit, students will come in outside of
class time to discuss the book with me. Books read for
another class or during previous school year do not count
towards outside reading. Students choosing to read books
that have been made into movies are expected to read
the book and watch the movie and should expect more
difficult questions during the discussion.

Notebook - 5%
Students will maintain a notebook (as listed in the

Student grades are weighted according to

the percentages above.

materials list above) with all of their class work, notes, and
a grade sheet. Notebooks will be graded four times
during the year. The three criterion for the notebook
score are: complete notes, assignments present and
organized, and an up-to-date grade sheet.

Third incident Referred to the discipline officer.

Tardies and Late Arrivals

o

A student who is not in the classroom when the bell rings is ei ther late or tardy. A student with a pass
is late; a student without a pass is tardy.

Tardy consequences will be followed as stated in the student handbook.

Late Work and Absences

o

An assignment that is not handed in when collected in class is late. Stud ents may turn in
assignments for half credit one class period after the due date. Work more than one day late will
not receive credit. After two weeks, the work will no longer be reviewed for "late, no credit" status.

Students will fill out a late work slip for any assignment that was not turned in on time (for any reason)
and staple it to their assignment before turning it in.

Students are responsible for tests and quizzes that are assigned in their presence.

Students with an excused absence will be expected to submit work on the day that they return to
school if that work was assigned in their presence.

Students with an excused absence will have 2 school days to submit work that was assigned in their
absence.

Make-Up Work
o

Students are responsible for collecting make-up work from the What Did I Miss? cabinet all when
they return to school.

Students are responsible for setting up any necessary make-up dates for tests or quizzes with the
teacher. Tests and quizzes should be made up within one week of t he absence. Make-up tests take
place outside of class time: before school or during advisory period.

Contact Me
The best time to come in with questions or for extra help is during advisory, at 7:30 in the morning, or
before 3:15 in the afternoon. My life outside of school hours revolves very much around the life of my
baby, but I will always work with you if you work with me.
