CENTER FOR GEOSPATIAL RESEARCH

College of Science and Technology

SHORT TERM COURSE ON INTRODUCTION TO GIS AND
REMOTE SENSING

Geographical
System

Information

Geographical Information System (GIS) is a

computer based information system used
to digitally represent and analyze the
geographic features present on the surface
of the Earth and the events (non-spatial
attributes linked to the geography under
study) that take place on it. Digital
representation means to convert analog
(smooth line) into a digital form. GIS is now
being used by engineers of all fields.

Remote Sensing

The objective of the course is:

to provide opportunity for students from
different department to learn basics of GIS and
remote sensing, and its application in the field
of engineering.
There is no entry fee, however at the end of
the course participants should
produce
research paper(s) for Zorig Melong publication.

Remote Sensing is the science and art

of acquiring information about material
objects, area, or phenomenon, without
coming into physical contact with the
objects, or area, or phenomenon under
investigation. Without direct contact,
some means of transferring information
through space must be utilized.
In remote sensing, information transfer
is
accomplished
by
use
of
electromagnetic
radiation
(EMR).
Information about earth is gathered by
various satellites developed by NASA
and many other space research centers
across the globe

Training
This short term training focuses on giving
basic idea on GIS and remote sensing and
enhancing GIS application skills as a common
denominator among the participants having
background in different disciplines.
Online registration : 13 August 2015 (4 PM onwards)
