Dear Parents/Guardians:

Our class will be going to the Grinter Place Historic Site. The cost per student is $1, we are allowed one parent
per every 10 students so that allows us to have 2 parent chaperones. Chaperones will not need to pay to attend. On the
trip there will be many activities that allow students a view into the past. One of the state standards for second grade is;
Societies experience continuity and change over time (Kansas Standards for History Government and Social Studies).
The Grinter Place offers a program for students in 2nd-4th grade in which students are able to go on a 2 hour tour of the
Grinter Place, making butter, making quilt blocks, washing laundry, and learning to dance the Virginia Reel. The program
is titled, Early Settlers, River Trade, and Prairie Life. I think students will enjoy the hands-on activities provided by this
location which will help them to make the comparison of then to now.
In addition to our trip we will tie in several activities in our classroom. You can help students to think about how
life is now prior to the field trip to help them think about the differences they will see. I think this will be a wonderful
experience for you and your child.
