Materials:
Picture of children stricken by polio (with leg deformities)
Background Information
Some diseases that affect the nervous system are due to some viral
infection. Polio, an infection of the central nervous system is caused by a virus.
Meningitis is a disease that affects the brain and the spinal cord.
Immunization of children at a very young age can protect them from certain
vital diseases.

Motivation
1. Show pictures of physically handicapped person. Ask: What can you say about
the picture?
E2- EXPLORE the concept through variety of investigations
Activity I-Using Think-Write-Pair-Share
1. Ask children if they know somebody who cannot walk/physically handicapped?
Were they happy or contented with their lives?
2. Pose this question: How will you describe the attitude of a physically
handicapped person?
3. Let them think and write their answers to the question.
4. Then let them get a pair/seatmate and discuss their answers.
5. Sharing of ideas through class discussion.

1. Group pupils in groups of 6-8 members
2. Then let the group complete the table.
