Reflection

By Shanica Robin - 308206773

What Worked?
Working on this project allowed me the opportunity

brainstorm ideas and approaches with other team

members. To sum up my experience of working with in
the group, I would say that we had good diversity and
inclusion management.
Group members came from different professional

backgrounds and had their experiences, and perspectives

which we harnessed in a way that was beneficial in order
to complete the project. I could say the because of this
inclusiveness an environment of involvement, respect
and connection. A group like an organization needs both
diversity and inclusion to be successful.

What worked? Leveraging

Strengths
The application of content in creating the LMS provided greater context to

the project. Although I did work with a LMS prior to this project the user
interface of the MoodleCloud differs. Annika stepped up to the plate as a
true leader troubleshooting technical glitches whether it was embedding a
video or creating a lesson on the Moodle. I must say that some of us were
faster learners than others. Sariah on the other hand, got the team off to a
great start contributing significantly to the Needs Assessment and Task
Analysis. Although I still had personal reservations on my understanding of
the ISD process, I worked feverishly on the Assessments items and Rubrics
and also contributed to the creating the lessons and instructional
strategies requirements.
The sharing of strengths allowed me to clear up some muddy areas I had,

specifically hierarchical task analysis and creating performance objectives

which I struggled with during the individual mini project.

What worked? Iterative

Process
The group embraced the iterative process, assessing and

provide feedback on individual team members contributions.

Group members individually accessed the LMS and went
through the lessons as learners to ensure that the tasks could
be completed within the time frame and to every aspect of
the learners experience was considered. The aim was to
ensure that our target audience would all find the completion
of the lessons a meaningful and active process.

What Did not Work?

The group got off to a late start primarily due to the fact that our

priorities were placed on completing an assignment for another

course. To add to this I had a business trip which cut off
communications with the group for almost a week. The group
members kept on sending skype messages which allowed me to get
back on track when I returned to the land of good internet
connections. I must say that completing the project and course took
a significant portion of my time a sacrifices had to me made which
included days off from work, late nights to early morning sessions
on Skype, cancelled family vacations to name a few.
The concern I had was that the rushed work may manifest itself in

the quality of the final project submitted. Ideally a group should

operate as a community of practice and group members stepped up
to the challenge. Therefore, burden to get the project completed
within the timelines was shared by all adding greater value.

What would I do differently?

Manage my time better.
Share more of thoughts with team members (lend my

voice)
Ask for more feedback (peers & tutor)

Working as a Group vs.

Individual
Looking back on any process whether you work as a group

or individually, there will always be thins that could be

changed. This question emphasized in my opinion the
importance of feedback to the instructional process.
Feedback whether its from peers or tutors alike can make a
difference in the learning process. I went from not
contributing ( during the individual project small group
forum) to having a voice in the group project. That made the
difference I believe in the learning outcomes I achieved.
Going forward in the programme I will ensure that I share

my perspective and contribute to learning forums even if Im

uncomfortable with my level of proficiency on the topic.

Final Thoughts
As a corporate trainer, I am sometimes considered as a pair of

hands meaning that I receive prepackaged materials to deliver to

an audience. The course content is usually dictated from the
International level and my main role is to provide feedback during
the Train-the-Trainer sessions as a pilot user.
This project finally gelled together the pieces in my head and I can

now say that I understand the ISD process and can already see
where I will be able to apply what was learnt here back on the job.
Further, I now recognize the flaws in courses that I have lent a

hand in implementing and I am challenging myself to right the

wrong by providing completing evaluative process and submitting
feedback to instructional design team.
