My music magazine is going to be called ‘Lyrical’. Reason I chose this name was because it as the word ‘Lyric’ in it, and Lyrics are associate with music and as my music is based on mainstream such as Coldplay there particular lyrics have a lot of meaning behind them so the choice of Lyrical fits well with the type of music I am using for this magazine.
What genre/subgenre of music is your magazine going to cover?
Mainstream Rock/Pop Rock (e.g. Coldplay, Snow patrol)
What is your sell line going to be?
I had several ideas for my sell line which is shown on the bubbl.us mind map. I choose Your Music. Your Mag because its straight to the point and the emphasis of ‘your’ shows that the magazine is for the reader and no one else and it makes the buyer feel like this magazine is just for them. Another reason why I chose this sell line was that its straight to the point and it’s an easy sell line to remember instead of something that’s 10 words long.
How much will it cost?
I chose a price of £3.95, I made the music magazine quite expensive because as the target audience I’m aiming at is going to be people aged 20-30 and at this age people have quite a bit of money so they will buy this magazine because they know they can afford it plus its music they like so they will want to buy it.
What will the frequency be, i.e. will it be weekly, fortnightly,
monthly, bi-monthly, quarterly etc.? My magazine is going to be a monthly issue; reason for this choice is its going to keep the readers updated on the music by month, because if it’s just aimed on one particular music genre repeating the same thing over again can be a bit boring, so I believe a monthly issue is the right choice. Another reason is the target audience will be working and won’t have time to constantly buy and read the magazine if it was weekly, a monthly issue suits the target audience because one day a month they can sit down and catch up on the gossip about the bands they like.
Who is your target audience? Subculture, age, gender, race,
sexuality, social class (mainly ABC1s) etc. My target audience is aimed at both genders as the music theme is mainstream and both genders like Coldplay, Snow Patrol etc. The age for my typical reader is aimed at 20-30 year olds. Charlotte Currie
What will your front cover image be?
For the choice of the main image I am going to use Coldplay. This image will be a medium close up shot of the four members in the band.
What will your cover lines be?
Just like the sell line I had many ideas but the one I’m using is COLDPLAY CONFESS “we’d love to do a duet with Jay Z” I chose to use Coldplay Confess because its alliteration and it’s a catchy cover line to attract the audience. Also the use of a quote by one of the members of Coldplay makes the reader want to see what they are talking about; using this quote is quite shocking because Jay Z music genre is totally different to what Coldplay is.
What other elements will be on your cover?
Other elements on my front cover will be other articles that are in the magazine for example competitions such as free tickets to go to concerts to see Snow Patrol. Also I’ll include information about upcoming events which are similar with the same music genre as Coldplay.
What features etc. will appear on your contents page?
The obvious features that will appear on my contents page will be the pages of what are included in my magazine. Other things include images of the main article or other images of bands that are inside the magazine, I may use clipart such as stars or shapes to try and make the page look more attractive. The title will be at top of the page. I am trying to achieve a newspaper look for the contents page so colours like black and white will be used.
What will your double page spread be about?
My double page spread is going to be an interview with Coldplay; it will include a main image on one page and the interview on another. Also on the same page as the image I will include some information about Coldplay e.g. concerts they are going to appear in etc.
