About
El Castillo is a Mayan pyramid located in a famous archaeological site called Chichen
Itza in the Mexican state of Yucatan. Thisbuildingisthoughttohavebeenbuiltbetweenthe9th
and 12th centuries. El Castillo was designated as a temple to the Mayan sun god Kukulkan,
which was represented as a feathered serpent. At the base of the staircase is the head of this
serpent and on each equinox the sun casts a shadow down the building which looks like the
snakes body slithering down the structure (shown in Right Corner View photo). In total, El
Castillo,has365steps,oneforeachdayoftheyear.
