Program foundations
The purpose of Science 9 is to provide you with learning experiences within the biological,
physical and earth sciences to examine the relationship that exists between science, society
and technology. Further, the content of Science 9 will be presented in ways that illustrate the
development and application of science, as well as involving you, the student, in the decision
and problem solving processes fundamental to science.
Goals and Learner Outcomes
The major goal of the junior high science program is to help the student become scientifically
literate; therefore, the student should be able to:

demonstrate a working knowledge and practical understanding of the sciences

evaluate scientific evidence
understand scientific process and adapt those processes for personal use
apply science concepts, theories and processes to the investigate everyday problems
understand the relationship of science and technology
demonstrate awareness of responsible science and technology in a social context
recognize the limitations and usefulness of science and technology in advancing human
welfare
