SCTI- Technical institute with the high school on the

same campus
Financed under the umbrella of the Sarasota County
School District
Students enroll at SCTI in addition to their regular
high school
Six total high schools in the district

Accreditation
In order to maintain accreditation SCTI has to

document at least 70% placement of students


The current rate of placement is about 87% which
includes- employment or continuing post secondary
education

Format
Students attend SCTI from all six high schools
Most high achieving AP students stay at home

schools
Morning and afternoon shifts
Programming is based on community input from
advisory boards
Instructors are industry professionals from the
community
Students are a combination of high school students
and adults working and learning together

Format
600 high school students are enrolled at any given

point in the school year


Students completing course requirements earn
certification not degrees
Students still earn their high school diplomas from
their home school
This is for juniors and seniors on pace to graduate
Students range in age from juniors in HS to nontraditional students of all ages

Discipline and Attendance


Generally not an issue- students elect to attend SCTI
If insubordination or attendance become issues

counselors work with students


If problems persist the student is removed from the
program

Employability Skills
20% of an SCTI students grade is based on

employability skills
Each instructor determines what these skills are
Based on industry standards and created with help
from advisory committees

Advisory Committees
Composed of area professionals- each discipline has

its own committee


Assist with programming decisions
Assist with defining employability for their industry
Assist with curricular decisions

Suncoast Polytechnical High School

Enrollment
Extensive application process including norm

referenced test scores and copies of FBA, IEP, or 504


if applicable
Capped enrollment at 600 students
Limited staff also means limited access for some
levels of identified students

Applicants
Minimum 2.o GPA required
Appropriate behavior history
Proficient scores on norm referenced state exams in

reading and math


Admission preference given to siblings
Can apply at any point in high school careerfreshman, sophomore, junior, senior years

Programming/Curriculum
Animation/Gaming/Simulation- a program in

collaboration with the Ringling College of Art and


Design- also partner with EA sports
Biomedical Science- Project Lead the Way

Geospatial/Geographic Information Systems- can

earn industry certification


Hotel & Restaurant management- collaboration with

Ritz Carlton
25 other areas of CTE through SCTI

Students learn to be comfortable with technology,

complex systems, and become skilled members of a


team

digital portfolios
Individualized teaching and learning for each
student

Parent Responsibilities
Provide home computer and high speed internet

access for home use (assistance available)


Active parent E-mail address for communication
Attend technology training and access your students
grades weekly to support progress and attendance

Parent Responsibilities
Provide an appropriate home study location
Attendance at ALL monthly booster meetings and

ALL conferencesVolunteering at least 15 hours per child to the school
