COMP II Semesterly SSR Book Assignment

100 FK Points
Choose 1 of the following options.
I need to know that you read your book. You will be graded on creativity,
neatness/preciseness, and content.
As we get closer to the end of the semester, I will give you a due date.
I will give you 2 days toward the end of the semester to work, otherwise you need to
complete this on your own time, or during SSR.
Options:
1. Descriptive Writing: Write down the best example of descriptive prose found in the
book you read. Write a paragraph explaining why the excerpt is a particularly good
example of descriptive prose.
2. Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down! Write a review of the book you read- in the style of a
movie review. Award the book either a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Ask me for a
sample movie review for a model.
3. Character Trait Diagram: Create a Venn diagram to illustrate similarities and
differences in the traits of two of the main characters in your book. You may also
compare a main character to yourself.
4. Surfing the Net. Where did the story take place? When did it take place? Surf the
net to find five internet sites that others might check out before they read the book
so they will know more about the books setting or time period.
5. Write a letter to the Author: After reading your book, write a letter to the author of
the book with your reactions and thoughts. If you write to an author that is still
alive, you can mail the letter for extra credit!
6. Sell It! Pretend to be a publicist for your book. Write and then deliver a 60-second
speech that will persuade other students that they should read the book. Writing
and speaking persuasively will be difficult of the student didnt like the book. If
thats the case, share that fact after your speech is over.
7. Interview a Character. Write six to eight questions to ask a main character in your
book. Also write the answers to each question. The questions and answers should
provide information that shows that you read the book (character traits.)
8. Ten Facts. Create a Ten Facts about (book title) sheet that has ten facts that you
learned from reading the book. The facts, written in complete sentences, must
include details the student didnt know before reading the book.

9. Script It! Write a movie script for a favorite scene in a book just read. At the top of
the script, the student can assign real-life TV or movie stars to play each role.
10.
What did you learn? Write a summary of what you learned from your book.
The summary might include factual information, something learned about people
in general, or something your learned about yourself.
11.
In the News! Create the front page of a newspaper that tells about events
and characters from your book. You might include weather reports, an editorial or
editorial cartoon, ads, etc. The title of the newspaper should be something
appropriate to the book.
12.
Prove it in Five Minutes! Give a 150 second (2 min.) speech in which you
share information about your books plot and characters. Close the presentation
by offering an opinion and recommendation about the book. Then students in the
class have 150 seconds to ask questions about the book. If you can prove that you
read the book, youre done!
13.
Picture book. Create a picture book version of your book that would appeal
to younger students. Then share your book with an elementary class.
14.
Setting. Write a one page report explaining how the setting was important to
the story/book.
