What are the conventions of this text type?: The conventions of my chosen
text type is that it is a form of communication, whose main purpose is to
influence a mass population. Due to the nature of propaganda, it is often biased
towards the agenda the creators are aiming for. Another property of propaganda
is that it appeals more to human emotions (Pathos) rather than the logical
aspect of persuasion (Logos). Other than the common conception of political
extremism, this text type could also be used in a positive sense, such as the
encouragement of healthcare systems.

Part One: The Particular Learning Outcome I am focusing on is to: Show an

awareness of the potential for educational, political or ideological influence of
the media. Areas to be considered could include: Political influences of
propaganda (e.g. learning about a time in historys perspective that needs to be
voiced out to the masses)

My Goals for this FOA: is to understand in more detail the various aspects of
visual language and the many unnoticeable decisions the artists makes just to
emphasise an issue. I also want to have a deeper understanding of how the
media takes advantage of how we think and persuade a certain idea. For
example, I want to know more about how something as trivial to us like
placement of text aects the meaning of text greatly in our minds. I also want to
improve on the development my personal opinions on the feelings I get when
seeing an example of mass media, and be able to connect to the language
analysis and context.

How this FOA will assist me to reflect on my own cultural practices?

I chose propaganda posters that contain specific American context and

inspiration, so it would make me analyse the historical context of the posters
that relate to real-life events back then. When I analyse dierent interpretations
from dierent time periods, it allows me to reflect on the representation of
Americas opinion on the issue from during and after the movement began. This
in turn would allow me to think about how my home country would view on the
issue of civil rights and race from dierent eras and what the popular opinion of
that time was and reflected through articles and other mass media.
