4th September 2015
Dear Parent/Carer
As we continue to work to improve behaviour and attendance in the school, I would like to take this
opportunity to further update you about the changes that have been made to the behavior policy
within our faculty regarding PE kit.
Our intention is to ensure students have their full PE kit for every lesson; however this is not always
the case and often results in students refusing to borrow PE kit to participate (C3), thus being
removed from the lesson.
Therefore we have implemented an addition to our current system, specifically for PE and kit issues,
with the hope that it will encourage students to bring their kit for every lesson and significantly
reduce the number of students being sent to safety net as a result of their PE kit.
The system follows our current C1- C3 warning system, whereby students receive a verbal warning
for not having their full PE kit. PE kit will then be offered to the student, with the expectation that the
student will wear the kit and participate in the lesson. If the student then refuses to borrow school
PE kit (C1), they will complete written work in the lesson in the form of peer analysis and receive a
30 minute detention with the class teacher. If the student then fails to complete the work set (C3), or
refuses to do the work set (C3), this will result in the student being removed from the lesson and
sent to safety net where they will complete their classwork for the remainder of the day, and an
extended detention of 60 minutes will then be set with the class teacher.
It may be necessary for this system to escalate to reports or whole school detentions, and these
matters will of course be discussed on an individual basis with parents/carers.
The introduction of this system on Tuesday 2nd September follows an extensive period of
consultation with both students and staff. Members of the PE faculty will be discussing this new
policy with students throughout PE lessons.
As always we are asking for your support to ensure this system results in all students being able to
participate in PE and gain the various health benefits of physical activity and exercise.
Once again, I thank you for your continued support of the school.
Yours sincerely
