Re: CPE Class-The Practical FIE

This is a proposal for an upcoming special education class that was created by Kelly Kujawa, our
district special education diagnostician, and I. It was created as a requirement for my internship
for school principal, based upon an obvious need with regard to special education students.

Intent:
This class is designed to create an understanding of the FIE, the diagnostic process, and learning
disabilities in general in order to promote student achievement and effective, inclusive lesson
planning, and ultimately improve performance on STAAR exams.

Scope:
The class will be for the benefit of Klein Oak High School faculty. The class will address
terminology for disabilities, the diagnostic process, specific areas of academic difficulties, and
recommendations for inclusive lesson planning.

Overview:
The title of the class is the The Practical FIE. The class explores the Full Individual
Evaluation report for special education students. It will be taught by Kelly Kujawa with my
assistance. The course was developed to increase the general understanding of learning
disabilities in order to facilitate collaboration and promote inclusive lesson planning. The class
will address the diagnostic process for learning disabilities to convert the FIE into a usable tool
for the classroom. The class will begin with an understanding of learning needs. Disabilities
such as processing deficits or Fluid Reasoning will be explained, detailing the areas where
diagnosed students will struggle. The class will transition into actual diagnostics, explaining the
process of testing in both the cognitive and academic domains of ability. Finally the class will
address the specific needs of students with disabilities and provide recommendations for

inclusive lesson planning for the general education setting. Scenarios will be given for particular
disabilities, and they will be explained in common verbiage. In other words, these are the tasks
that a person with a particular disability cannot perform. The teachers will provided with
particular strategies for incorporating the students into the instructional setting.

Delivery:
Mrs. Kujawa and I would like to deliver the class to all Klein Oak faculty throughout the course
of an entire instructional day, where faculty members will attend during their planning periods to
receive credit. All faculty will be awarded one hour of CPE for the class. Pending scheduling,
Mrs. Kujawa will create a course offering in Eduphoria. We are requesting time to present the
class in March or April.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
