Class Description
Gabrielinos College Prep Transition Class is a project-based technology course that will prepare
students for the rigor of high school and support their post-secondary planning. Each of the eight
units for this course are tailored for project-based learning and will require extensive group work.
Due to the collaborative nature of the course curriculum, the majority of the assignments will be
completed during class time with minimal focus on homework. All students will have access to
and use classroom-issued Chromebook laptops. Students are required to be logged into their
student Google accounts in order for their work to be submitted, reviewed, and graded through
the courses online Google Classroom.
The course is aligned with the Common Core Standards, 21st Century Skills, and the
International Society for Technology in Educations (ISTE) National Educational Technology
Standards. Each unit will include all four levels of the Depth of Knowledge: Recall, Skill and
Concept, Strategic Thinking, and Extended Thinking.
The College Prep Transition Class will be taught in conjunction with the ninth grade health
course, and students will move between both courses each quarter.

Writing: The grades for some assignments will be based, in part, on writing. All writing
component require students to follow the Writing Process and will be evaluated according to the
ELA department rubric aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
Participation/attendance: Credit for participation is embedded into each assignment. Students
are expected to attend class consistently, arrive on time, be prepared for class discussions, and
participate actively and appropriately. An atmosphere of constructive dialog and exchange of
differing viewpoints is encouraged.
Late assignments: Make-up work will be available for absences, but it is your responsibility to
obtain the work and complete it by the date reassigned by the teacher. Assignments more than one

week late will be subject to a 20% penalty. Assignments more than two weeks late are subject to
a 30% penalty.
Cheating and plagiarism: The first instance of cheating will result in contacting
parents/guardians, the student being awarded zero points for the assignment, and a discipline
referral to the Assistant Principal who will assign Saturday School. Students who demonstrate a
pattern for cheating or plagiarism are subject to additional progressive discipline.
Classroom Rules and Expectations:
RESPECT is the number one courtesy expected in the classroom.
THERE IS ZERO TOLERANCE FOR PROFANITY.
All students are expected to enter the class quietly and be seated at their assigned
table before the bell rings.
All personal electronics are to be silenced and put away before the bell rings; the
first offense will result in confiscation with return at the end of the day.
Backpacks and purses are to be hung on the back of the students seat.
Food and drink are not allowed unless at teachers discretion. Water is the
exception.
Students are expected to listen to the teacher at all times and raise their hand
before talking.
Students are expected to handle and store all classroom materials with care;
Laptop use will only be allowed for class assignments or at teachers discretion.
Students are expected to wait for teachers instructions for packing up and being
dismissed.
Failure to comply to these expectations will result in an after-school detention. Repeated or
extreme misbehavior will result with a discipline referral and a call to parents/guardians.
Additional School Rules, including Tardies, Nondiscrimination and Anti-Bias, and Dress
Code, can be found in the GHS Student Handbook. All GHS rules will be followed and
enforced accordingly.

I have reviewed this syllabus with my child.
