6.2 Engage in professional learning and improve practice


6.4 Apply professional learning and improve student learning.
Lead learning manager held a professional learning maths assessment evaluation during the first
session. I was at the doctor for part of it but I got to see a fair amount and one of the maths experts
was there. The grade 3 teachers evaluated their assessments and how to improve them and make
them better to give more information with fewer questions. They also co-constructed times and
dates for these assessments with the Master Teacher to ensure that fluency was occurring with the
program.
They also went through assessments for the entire year and how they can be improved for the next
time they occur. They also set a date for each teacher to have a session with the maths expert to
develop more strategies regarding these assessments and judgement around them. I mainly
observed during this time, listening to the teachers because I was confused about what they were all
discussing as (it was assessments earlier in the year).

What Next?
I have applied this knowledge to my maths assessment dates and what skills and knowledge will be
required by students in these assessments. My mentor teacher and I after that session went through
our maths plan and changed it to fit in all the assessment dates and push forward certain specific
maths lessons to get the students ready in time.
