Differentiating Instruction through Technology

Thesis statement: Differentiation learning also known as differentiated instructional
learning.
Differentiation a tool used for teaching, teachers create tailor made lesson plans to fit the needs
of all students. Lesson plans are modified to help students by challenging students who need to
and the student who dont need challenging. Teachers create the appropriate lesson plans at their
levels. By creating the lesson plans to fit the needs of all students this will help students that are
easily frustrated.

Technology to Differentiate Instruction

Name of Technology Tool: The Smart board and the internet www.brianpop.com
Differentiation is a tool used to help teachers/ Educators create the best lesson plan to meet the
needs of all students. Students learn differently some students need the extra help to learn the
skills of what is being taught as we know some students learn faster than others some lack in that
areas. This is why the need of differentiation is important to our student as former president Bush
created the plan called No child left behind law to support and help teacher meet the needs of
the students. In order to meet the needs of the students teachers have to assess the students in
order to create the proper lesson plan. The assessment will show the strengths of the student and
the areas the students need help in this give teachers better insight on how to teach students.
Teacher create lesson plans using rigorous activities keep the students interested in what is being
taught and keeping the students fully engaged with the lesson weather in small group or in one
on one setting or in a large group activities using the smart board to make the lesson fun and

exciting for the students. The teacher create strategies that are used at school and home giving
parents resources to help support the students academically.
Differentiation lesson plans are designed for individual students as a whole this means that every
students will receive help from these lesson plan in this process teacher builds the students skills
in readiness, ability to interests and talents learning profiles learning style. Indelicato, J. (2014,
May 1)
Assessment of the contents which includes motivation multiple ways of assessing students using
Summative Evaluation to pin point the areas to help students differentiation can be
accomplished in several different ways. Their different learner theirs the visual learners and
their students who are hands on learners, then we have the learner who learn through
demonstration or example this is a part of the learning profile hoe the student learns.
Using the data from the assessments is how the teacher design the curriculum for individual
student when teaching the students we have to gradually add more challenging material to the
students. Teacher have to re-assess the students to see what they learn and what the students
retain. Teacher have to keep students on a routine schedule to help them retain that is used daily.
Districts assume that general education teachers have the ability time and desire to differentiate
instruction for high-ability students, which would save district money eliminate the need for
formal identification plans and skills meets the needs of students during instructional time
(Hertberg-Davis, 2009; Tomlinson& Allan, 2000).
The goals of the teachers when teaching differentiated classrooms are to create a connections
between teachers and students while establishing a safe learning environment.
Teachers gather information about the students to foster the relationship between students and
teacher to learn more about the student interest and their hobbies along with the strengths and

weaknesses. Also encouraging students to become more independent learners by teaching them
to assess their work habits and make them more self-sufficient.
Teachers have to Micro Differentiation by adjusting questions in discussion and most
importantly encouraging individuals to do their best and work hard to accomplish their goals
academically.

Standards:
Identify and describe shapes (squares, circles, triangles, rectangles, hexagons, cubes, cones,
cylinders, and spheres).

MCC.K.G.1. Describe objects in the environment using names of shapes, and describe the
relative positions of these objects using terms such as above, below, beside, in front of,
behind, and next to.

MCC.K.G.2. Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.

MCC.K.G.3. Identify shapes as two-dimensional (lying in a plane, flat) or threedimensional (solid).

ISTE Standards 3a Plan strategies to gather, evaluate, and use information.

Name of Technology Tool: Using the smart board and the internet www.brainpop.com to used
the educational game to identify and explore different shapes. This activity is for 1st grade
students the student who have difficulty with writing /draw or reading will use the tool to
write/draw and read with audio.
ISTE Standards 2a interact collaborate, and publish with peers experts, or others employing a
variety of digital environments and media.

Name of Technology Tool: The students will use the computer to Create different graphs to
make 2-D and 3-D shapes the students who have difficulty drawing the shapes will have access
to the computer using various shapes. Using the smart board and the pin to expand the shape to
different sizes 2-D and 3-D
ISTE Standards 5c Demonstrate personal responsibility for lifelong learning.
The students will discover how shapes are all around us and the different type of shape.
Pros and Cons: When working with technology you have to know the pros and the cons
working with technology allows you to make the process go faster and easy when creating
papers, reaching, and different projects. The cons are not being able to use the internet or getting
viruses or theirs a power outage. When using pencils and paper the led can break on the pencil
and you dont have a pencil sharper or you are out of paper, to print things or write on.
Technology offers different engineers educational websites and office which are tools like office
word, PowerPoint and excel to create spread sheets. When working on the computer and you
dont save the information then you know longer have the paper and you have to retype the
information causing more time, this is a major problem. Technology can be used for cd of audio
book reading from the use of cds. One of the cons are the fact that the Cd is scratch when
listening to a book while looking at pictures or following along with the book.

Conclusion
This paper referred to different ways to better serve students creating lesson plans with
differentiation, by helping students, all students to meet their needs academically. Teachers have
to create lesson plan to be tailor made for the students by assessment them to find their strengths
and weakness area. Teachers use these tools for reading using different materials like cds or tape
recorders for spelling and books audios allowing student to listen to books and follow along
using their finger. This activity students partner up with each other this is used for students how
are struggling the setting for this activity can take place in the quite center or in the Library.
Theres other ways to differentiate student follow the routine for class work the students choose
what are they want to work in for example student have a chose sheet on this sheet their 15
activities for the student to choose from one being read along with the book.
The key is to help the student strengthen the areas they are weak in.
