Acids and Bases Used in Everyday Life

Acids and bases are a part of our everyday life. We might not have realized that they are present
all around us.

Acids are found in different kinds of food and in our stomach (gastric juice). Acids give the sour
taste of food and help the stomach degrades and digests the food as you have taken in biology.

Examples of acids: lemon, vinegar, variety of fruits, butter…

As for bases they are found in household products, such as drain cleaners, soap, household
cleaner… Bases feel slippery and taste bitter. Moreover, some bases serve as antacids that relieve
the pain due to the high amount of gastric juice in your stomach.

Classification of Solutions into Acidic and Basic Solutions

Most of the chemicals are dangerous to taste to classify as acids or bases, so an acid base
indicator is needed. An acid base indicator changes color according to the solution.
