PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 9, 2010

Killeen Police responded to a domestic dispute at 2399 Jennifer #6 at 3:45pm on Monday, March
8, 2010. While officers were responding to Jennifer they were told that the male was armed with
a gun and he would not allow his girlfriend to leave the apartment.

Upon the officers arrival they spoke with family members at another apartment nearby and
confirmed that the 44 year old male was armed and holding his girlfriend hostage; the family and
other residents were evacuated from the apartments and moved to safety. The
officers/negotiators attempted to speak with the male but he was not answering, the female was
contacted and she advised she was ok. The Tactical Response Unit was deployed as the officers
continued negotiation attempts. At 5:06pm the front door to the apartment opened and the
female came outside unharmed; she was taken to safety by SWAT officers. The front door
remained open and officers continued to attempt negotiations with the male who was still armed.
Officers heard gunshots come from the residence; negotiators attempted to get the male to speak
with them but received no answer. The tactical officers made entry into the apartment through
the open front door and open kitchen window and found the male had barricaded himself inside
the bathroom. Negotiators again started speaking with the male inside the bathroom attempting
to get him to come out peacefully. Officer then heard another gunshot come from the bathroom
and they attempted to speak with the male but received no answer; the tactical officers made
entry into the bathroom and found the male with a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
EMS entered and immediately transported him to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center; he
was subsequently transferred to Scott & White Memorial Hospital Temple where he is in the
Intensive Care Unit on life support.

This incident continues to be investigated and the name of the male has been withheld due to his
condition; information will be released as it becomes available.
