Introduction
As part of the curriculum, the 3 rd year BSA, BSAT, and BSBA-MA
students are expected to initiate an Educational tour on a specified
destination and be out of school for almost a week. We the third year
students were out of town and been in Cebu for 4 days.
We headed to Cebu last March 29th, 2015, and arrived there nearly
2pm. On the same day, we had our first visit in Gardenia Bakeries
Philippines, Inc. we manage to know and see how breads were being
processed. After which, weve went to Mactan Shrine and saw Lapu-Lapu
Monument. We have our dinner then at Sugbahan in Mandaue City.We were
accommodated by Bayfront Hotel near SM City Cebu.
March 30, 2015 we departed to International Pharmaceutical Inc,
and Profood International Corporation. Weve witnessed there different
processes that really made us amazed. Lunch is MangLakwatsero in Cebu
City. We had head our way next to PortaCoeli Industrial Corp, A Norkis Group
of Companies. After visiting the said company, we had our dinner then at
Juan Letsonero. Then aside went back to the accommodation and again used
our free time in the SM City Cebu.
March 31, 2015, our next destination would be Taoist Temple in
Beverly Hills. Since, bus were not allowed anymore to enter in the

subdivision, We have an alternative destination in Pari-an District wherein

we have our picture taking in the Heritage of Cebu which is a large
monument exemplifying the significant things that happened in Cebu City as
well as big sculptures of significant people like former Pres. Sergio Osmena.
Weve visited
also the Yap-Santiago Ancestral House, the oldest house in the Philippines
aging 339 years of existence. Our next destination was Crown Regency
Tower to watch a 6D Movie and there weve experienced a breathtaking
show. After which, weve went to the one of the most famous churches in
Cebu, the Sto. Nino Basilicaand witnessed there the Sulog Dance which is 2
steps forward and 1 step backward. In the afternoon, weve went to CocaCola Bottlers Inc. and had our free drinks as well as witnessed the different
routines being performed in the plant. After visiting the said plant, weve
push through to our next destination which is the Chapel of San Pedro
Calungsod in front of the ongoing construction of SM Seaside City which is
considered as bigger than the current titleholder, the Mall of Asia in Manila.
April 1, 2015, the last day of our stay in Cebu City, weve checked
out already in our hotel and proceeded to our first destination which is Titays
Liloan Rosquillos and Delicacies Inc. Were really glad there because they
had given us free taste of their products during the presentation of their
company. In the afternoon, weve went to Teleperformance in Cebu IT Park, a
Call Center Agent Company which is considered the largest in the world.
Almost all of us were really impressed by the communication skills by the
one of the employees of Teleperformance because she speaks English
fluently. When were already done there, we were given a chance to have a
last shopping in SM City Cebu before going to the port to depart in Cebu
going to Cagayan de Oro City.
At 8 in the evening, the ship started its navigation going to the City of
Smiles, Cagayan de Oro City and at exactly 5:15AM on April 2, 2015, weve
reached the port of the city. Our school bus were already waiting in the port
for us to be fetched and our travel have continued going to Midsayap. After

more than 9hours of land travel, weve already reached our destination and
after that weve separated ways going back to our own home which our
family is waiting for.

Objectives of the Tour

The specific objectives of the tour are:
1.

Reinforcement - The tour can reinforce or support what a teacher has

been instructing in class about a subject and help students understand a
topic better.

2.

Engagement- Teachers turn tours into mobile classrooms, and engage

students to collect data then assigning a project based on what they learned
during the duration of the tour.

3.

Socialization- Taking students into a new environment give them the

experience of traveling in a group and teaches them to socialize and to be
respectful of the locations they visit.

4.

New Insights- The tour can give new insights of the things outside the
school which can raise encouragements.

5.

Bonding -They may be able to connect on more of a personal level

without the structure of the normal school days. Students may be able to
spend much of the trip day in small groups, observing, chatting and learning
about each other, and it will form a new bond among the students.

6.

Real-world experience - Students practice their skills and critical thinking

abilities outside of the controlled class setting. Being about able to ask
experts about their particular area of study on the spot requires thinking. He
is able to learn real-world lessons.

7.

Fun - No matter how much the students learn during a tour, their favorite
memories may be based on their enjoyment of the day. Students will have
fun with their friends and they also may return to the classroom with a
renewed focus on their schoolwork.

III.

Significance of the Tour

The tour provided valuable educational opportunities away from the
classroom, without using textbooks and other used in normal school setting.
Students on educational tours can often learn while having fun in a more
informal environment.
Part of how students benefit from educational tours is by gaining new
perspective on the world. This is especially true for more extensive
educational tours or trips where students travel farther away from home. By
coming into direct contact with a different environment or even a new
culture, students can better understand their place in the community and
develop openness to differences in others.

Discussion
We gained understanding to a lot of things, some are new stuffs for me
and some are not. Mostly, what I have learned are not about the things the
company are being particular of, actually, its about how Operation and
Productions Management current trend and the impact it causes in the
society. In addition, we realized that we should be more particular in what
we are doing right now to face such challenge. How job mismatch happens
that causes unemployment and this caught my attention. Were surprised
that there are such certifications and trainings that can help to determine
the right job for someone and fill the job mismatch that is happening
between the academe and industry sector. It was mentioned that grades and
school youve come from is not a big deal anymore whether youll be
accepted on a company but rather its all about the skill you got and the
certifications to prove it.

V.

Conclusion
By making the tour and having those companies visited actually
planted the reality of life to us. It made us realized what to do, how to do
things, why we should do, when to do thing accordingly, most common
questions were answered. The exposure and engagement we had will greatly
affect our attitude towards the movement on the industry today.
