Directions: The underlined word in each sentence contains a stem from the current list.
Rewrite each sentence in your notebook. Under each sentence, guess what the
underlined word means using your knowledge of the stem meaning(s) and context clues
and explain your reasoning. Then look up the word in a dictionary or use dictionary.com
and write the definition and part of speech for the word, as its used in the sentence. Skip
a line between each numbered sentence. Notice the example below.
Sentence:
The luminous moon light was glorious to behold as it lit the
entire night sky.
Guess:
Luminous must mean very bright and full of light since the
stem lum (luc) means light and ous means full of and the
