Dear Sir/Madam,
I wish to write a letter in support of Emily Dibbles teaching excellence.
Emily has taught at Salt Lake Community College for 25 semesters. I have known
her in a professional capacity for approximately 5 years. Throughout that time I
have been impressed with her commitment to her students, the college and her
own professional development. I have worked alongside Emily in various capacities
such as department course reviews, eportfolio assessments and department
workshops, conferences and training days. Throughout such she has demonstrated
a high level of professionalism, creative approaches, a sound understanding of
teaching and pedagogy, punctuality and reliability.
Emily displays creative approaches in her teaching as demonstrated in her student
evaluations and her approaches to assessment. She is also adept at sharing this
knowledge with her colleagues. An example of this is her participation at a
Humanities Department Training Day for adjunct faculty that I organized in the Fall
2013 Semester. I asked Emily to participate and share her approaches to final
assessment. Her presentation was excellent, and she was able to engage fellow
faculty and get them excited about her ideas and methods. Emily detailed her
creative approaches to having students relate the course material to a final project
and have them create an original piece of work that reflected their understanding of
the course material. She shared some examples of her students work, some of
whom wrote and performed songs, created power point presentations or produced

original art work. The standard of the students work was high and I was impressed
by the ability Emily has to motivate her students to produce such high quality work.
When looking at the guidelines and rubric that she provides her students with, I can
definitively state that Emily is clear in her expectations with her students and
provides the necessary encouragement and instruction to help them succeed. I had
several adjunct faculty members email me following the training day and mention
Emilys presentation and ideas specifically. I can therefore conclude that Emily
Dibble has the ability to inspire both her students and her peers and is effective in
her contact and relationships with department colleagues.
It is a pleasure to work alongside Emily. She is friendly, positive and has the ability
to make those around her feel comfortable and capable. She is reliable and
hardworking and I feel this is reflected in her service to the Humanities Department
and her frequent selection by the Associate Dean to participate in department
projects. She is undoubtedly a teaching asset to the Humanities Department and to
Salt Lake Community College as a whole. I have no hesitation in recommending
Emily Dibble as an individual who demonstrates teaching excellence to students
and colleagues a like.
If you require any additional information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours faithfully,
Claire Peterson.
