Competition

Preliminary Test: The preliminary test will be given on August 11 at 2:00 p.m. s
harp. Latecomers will not be admitted. Participants will answer 30 questions: 1
0 questions about American cities, 10 climate/nature questions, and 10 identifyi
ng pictures of natural/national American landmarks. The questions will consist o
f multiple choice, written, and picture identification questions. The 50 highest
scores will move on to the next round.
Round 1: Round 1 will take place on August 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Contestants mu
st answer three out of four geography questions right to move on to round 2. The
questions will be taken from a selection of multiple choice, picture identifica
tion, and questions with no answer options given.
Round 2: Round two and the subsequent Championship round will take place on Augu
st 19th, 2015 at 2:00. Contestants must arrive at 2:00 pm sharp in order to part
icipate. The 2nd round will be single elimination until there are only 10 contes
tants left.
Geo bee questions will come from 6 possible categories:
1. Cultural geography: human landscape of the U.S, immigration, demographics, cu
ltural differences across the U.S ,
2. Economic geography: location of industries, transportation, agriculture, urba
n vs. rural development
3. Across the country questions: national parks, cities, state capitals, state l
ocations, state trivia
4. Plants/animals: American nature, state flowers, common animals, common trees
etc.
5. Physical geography: natural landforms (rivers, mountains, Plaines etc.), clim
ate, oceans and coasts, rocks
6. Odd-item-out: a contestant will be given three choices and a description. The
contestant must choose which of the three choices that does not fit the descri
ption
