Problem Statement

We have choose the Cable Crossover Machine to study the structure and
mechanics of material in order to complete the task of common assignment given.
There are a few problem that we are facing to complete this task.

The first problem that we are facing is occurred when we are trying to determine
the value of the cross-sectional area of the bar. The thickness of the bar is just to thin
and hard to measure with the unproper measuring equipment. On that time, we only
have a plastics ruler and a tape measurement in which does not suitable for taking
measurement on this machine. So, we have decide to make an assumption on the
cross-sectional area of the bar with a acceptable and logic value.

Secondly, while we are taking the diameter of the pin of the pulley and the
diameter of the cable. To measure a area of the round surfaces, we need a vernier
calliper or a set of micrometer. But unfortunately, we does not have any of these
measurement equipment. So, we stick to use an assumption to the value of the cable,
with a diameter of 3.5mm. Meanwhile, for the diameter of the pin of the pulley, we
search the standardized diameter used through the internet and decide to use the
diameter of the pin of the pulley with a value of 3mm.

Lastly, the full load of this machine is 12kg. But, we only take the average load of
the machine with the value of 6kg only. This is because we only need one static and
unchanged load in order to calculate the structure of this machine.

Objective
The main objective of this common assignment is :

I.

To help students relate the fundamental principle learned in class with a real life
occurrences

II. To train students to do the analysis and apply theorem or theories to the real life
problems and situations
III. To achieve a logical and justifiable result and calculation of a equipment chosen
IV. To determine and assume the forces involved in the structure of equipment
selected
V. To observe and study the structure of equipment chosen in perspective of
mechanics of materials
VI. To develop the teamwork skills of each of the members of the group
