Dear Professor Plvan:
After reviewing the outcomes for your WRT 307 course, I was very impressed by the
way you challenge your students to become effective writers in their chosen fields. By
utilizing collaboration across disciplines with rhetorical analysis and persuasive writing
techniques, you provide a very effective framework that builds on the work of prior
writing courses. Because this course is very important to those entering the workforce, I
ask that you allow me to join WRT 307. I believe my experience can add much to this
course and I hope that you agree.
As a senior in the Information Management and Technology program I understand the
need for technology professionals to utilize effective writing skills at work. Throughout
my coursework, I have had to collaborate with those of different disciplines and learned
to work through competing priorities. Projects for courses in my Global Enterprise
Technology minor required me to work closely with students across cultures and
continents to ensure successful project completion. Success in these instances required a
degree of flexibility with the ability to accept and give constructive criticism. In
addition, nearly all the courses in my program have required project work where I have
had to analyze problems and then employ effective consensus-building techniques to
construct assignments that meet course objectives.
My recent internship for Brown Brothers Harriman showed me first hand that problems
frequently occur when messages are not clear or assumptions are mistakenly made
between staff members. I witnessed several instances of miscommunication that
resulted in expensive mistakes for the company. From this experience, I learned how to
write professional emails and other documents for distribution throughout the different
management levels. Since I was soliciting collaboration on a project, my follow up
correspondences allowed me to improve my ability to elicit compliance on important

issues. This experience proved invaluable and I am very eager to bring these skills and
professionalism to your writing course.
I know a letter such as this has its limitations in conveying my enthusiasm, skills and
motivation. If you would like to meet to discuss in greater detail what I can bring to this
course please do not hesitate to contact me at (862) 579-7933 or by email at
kychambe@syr.edu. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Kyle Chambers
