The primary target audience for my brick are the parents and individual adults that are interested in

the effects of viruses. This is due to the number of facts revealed in the poem and the relationship
between viruses and biodiversity. Nevertheless, people of all ages that are interested in the subject of
virus can become as a secondary audience for this piece of writing. The good and bad effects of
biodiversity, whether be it in plants, animals, humans, and in the ecosystems are the main points that I
based my brick upon. This is shown through the descriptive words used in the poem. I have shown
the effects of viruses in biodiversity through the poem and the images that show the effects.
My poem is positioned in the middle of the brick as I wanted to emphasise on the verbal aspect of my
brick. To show this I have made the text and its size at a legible level. The images that are
surrounding the poem are images of biodiversity being infected by viruses in a helpful and dangerous
way. This is to help the audience understand what the poem is trying to say, and catch the audiences
attention, and draw them to the verbal aspect of the brick. I chose a different colour for the
background and the box for the poem. This is to emphasis on the poem. The background of the poem
is split into two different colours. This is to show the concepts I am trying to portray. One side of the
brick is a light colour to show the good effects, and one side of the brick is made up of darker colours
to show the bad effects. The images are also arranged in this way, to show the different sides of the
effects.
I used descriptive words such as infectious, dangerous, and invade at the start of my poem to
show to the audience the bad side of the virus. This is to get the audience engaged in the poem, as
most people get interested in the bad effects of things. Then I used words such as, helpful,
protection, and life to show the good side of the viruses. My poem mainly uses connotative
language as a language technique such as the silent invader to be able to define the topic in a more
scientific and metaphorical level. The tone of the poem is also very passive, it doesnt just focus on
one aspect of the effects. This makes it easier to show the good and bad effects of viruses on
biodiversity on an unbiased way.
I specifically used similes such as like a thief in the night to support the message I am trying to
convey to the audience. I also used this technique to help the audience relate to the poem. This is
because people can understand the words they are reading when they can relate to them. I also used
the personification of the viruses in protecting diversity to portray that viruses are an important part of
biodiversity and should not always be regarded as a dangerous substance as some can actually
protect diversity. Overall, I think that my brick is attention-grabbing, scientific and achieves its
purpose of educating the audience about viruses and the relationship between virus and biodiversity.
