team mates for todays activities. Today

we are going to start our day off by
playing a safe but fun game of capture
the flag. You will receive two flags each.
When you are told to do so, place one
flag on each side of your pants or belt
loops on your pants. Do not tie them.
Make sure that it is secure but it does not
restrict someone from grabbing it if
possible. There will be no pushing or
tripping one another. Make sure you
keep you heads up at all times. Once you
grab a flag take it and place it into your
teams designated buck. For those of you
who have jerseys do not take them off
until told to do so. You will start and stop
the activity at the sound of my whistle.
May I have one volunteer to help pass
out the flags? Thank you! Are there any
questions? Ready (whistle blowing). The
whistle will blow again for the activity to

Lesson Core - Task 1:

During this activity, you will remain in
the teams that you were in during capture
the flag. However, before we start, there
are a few COTS that we need to cover.
(Teacher goes through the COTS first by
herself then with 2 student volunteers)
Within your teams, when told to do so,
one person will line up on the fence and
stand behind a football, and the other
person will line up in between the orange
cones in front of one of your team mates.
Do not touch the football until told to do
so. (after students get into their assigned
areas) You and your partner will practice
passing (throwing) and receiving
(catching) the football. If you feel as
though you and your partner can throw
the football further, the person standing
between the cones may take one step
back each time a successful pass has

student volunteers to visually
demonstrate the correct
techniques/COTS to their peers while
passing and receiving the football. .

Students will then be informed of the
modified team building football game.
Once the teacher has informed the
students of the safety rules they will start
the game on the teachers signal
(whistle).
8-10
minutes

Lesson Core - Task 2:

Has everyone played keep-a-way or
monkey in the middle before? Good,
Some of you have and some have not.
When playing a team sport it can be
similar to playing those games. Most of
the time you have a defense which is
trying to take or gain possession of the
ball and score, and an offense which is
trying to score.
This area has been set up for you to play
a safe game of modified flag football. If
you look around you, there are two
orange cones that have been placed on
both sides which represent the touch
down area. There is one cone placed on
each side of the activity area. If you step
on the outside of these cones, you are
considered to be out of bounds. The team
who is in possession of the football will
have three chances to make a touchdown.
If a touchdown is not made within those
three tries the other team will get
possession of the football. You will start
and stop the activity on the teachers
signal.
Does everyone understand? Are there
any questions? Lets flip a coin to see
who will be our starting offensive team.
Ready! (whistle blows) At approximately
the eight minute mark, the teacher will

extension of task 1 with game
play.

heads down

equipment and prepare for transition.

Demonstration Plan:
The students will have practiced passing
and catching the football, which was
demonstrated earlier. The teacher will
verbally point out the visual marks for
the teams touchdown areas and the out
of bounds line.
Questions to Check Understanding
Where do you place your fingers on the
football? (Laces) If you are on offense do
you have the ball or are you trying to
keep the other team from scoring? (We
have the ball/ trying to score) When you
hear your teacher blow the whistle, what
should you do? (Put the ball on the
ground and freeze with my hands on my
head, with my eyes on you)
Adaptations
I can shorten the playing field or expand
it based on their abilities.

Transition: On the teachers signal, the

students will place the equipment on the
ground, put their hands on their head,
place their eyes on their teacher, and
listen to further instruction. On the
teachers signal the students will pick up
all equipment and place it in the
appropriate equipment bag then take a
