PROTECTIVE

TEXTILES

One of the most interesting segments of the

technical textile market
Many "high-tech" fibers and products, such as
Kevlar, Nomex (DuPont), and Twaron
(Acordis), Spectra (Allied) HPPE fibers, PBI,
Kermel (Rhone-Poulenc), P84 (Inspec),
carbon impregnated fibers, aramid spunlace
materials, fiberglass, even steel, copper, and
other metal fibers have applications in the
protective clothing areas.
Conventional materials such as nylon and
polyester, cotton and wool, are also used and
provide satisfactory protection in certain
applications - depending on the hazard or
exposure.

All textiles are protective to

some or the other extent

What is the main difference

between ordinary textiles and
PROTECTIVE TEXTILES?

Protective Properties
Protective properties of textile
materials are those properties by
virtue of which a person wearing
clothes made of that textile
material is protected from various
hazardous environments and
harmful substances

Kevler fiber is used in

soft body armor by
loosely stacking
layers (16+) of
filament aramid fabric,
each providing
coverage and
progressive
resistance to bullet or
fragment penetration.

Thermal protection can be

achieved by the following
methods:
Wearing clothes made of high
temperature resistant fibres.
Application of Fire retardant finish
on clothing or textiles.
