theirdocumentsonlineatMicrosoft'sOneDrive(https://onedrive.live.com/).Theycreatedafreeaccountandcan
saveandworkrightfromthiscloudservice.
WeareusingOffice2013asourtool.Ifyoudon'thaveOffice2013(or2007or2010),notamajordealasthe
studentscanworkonmostoftheirassignmentsrightfromtheWebbrowserbeitaMacorPC.Ifyoudohave
anyoneofthese,thatcanaddsomemoreconvenience.
Thestudentsresources(directions,exercises,etc...)areallavailablefromourMoodleserver
(http://moodle2.diisd.org/).Theyusethisfortheironlineclassroom.Thisiswheretheyalsoturnintheirworkto
me.
OnethingIdoforthestudentsisgivethemanoutlineforeachchapteroftheworkthatneedstobedone(I
haveincludedtheChapter3Directionsforyoutosee).Thisdocumentworkstwoways:
1. Itistheirwaytokeeptrackofwhatneedstobecompleted,
2. TheyMUSTcheckeachitemoffastheycompleteeachpart.Thisisactuallypartoftheirgradebecause
fromtheformattingstandpoint,theyarelearninghowtodothis.
InMoodle,Ialwaysgivethemtheirdailyrequirementsfortheweek.Thatis,thesedirectionsgivethemnoticeof
whatshouldbecompletedoncertaindayskeepingthemontask.Whenthingsarecompleted,theycheckthem

offintheirChapter3DirectionsfilewhichistheirMASTERchecklist.
Thestudentshavebeengettingalotofworktimeinclassbecauseinthiscurrentchapter,itisthemost
importantformattingtolearn.
Second,hecouldalwayscomeinbeforeorafterschoolifheneedsmoretimeorEXTRAhelp.Iamalways
here.Justhavehimgivemeaheadsup!
Now,asforhiszerosinPowerSchool,onehehasn'tuploaded,onehewassupposedtocallmeovertohis
computertoshowmewhenthecompletedfilewasdone,andonehedidn'tmakevisibletomesoIcanseeitin
Quizlet,anotheronlineresource.Iwillremindhimofthattodaysoatleastiftheyaredonewecangetthose
gradesupdated.Iwillbegradingmanyexercisesthisweekendasthestudentshavebeendoingthemallweek.I
willcheckwithhimtoseeexactlywhereheisatsoIcangiveyouaheadsup.

firstsemester.ThatiswhatwasonhistestoutapplicationandwhatIwastold.
AsfarasI'mconcerned,heonlyhastotestoutofsemester1.
AsfarasthehandsonProjectsheneedstodo,theyareapartofthetestandneedtobecompletedduringthe
testtime.Heactuallygota78%onthosehandsonpartswhenhetriedtotestout.Itwasthe73%onthe
MultipleChoiceTrue/Falseportionthatkepthispercentagebelow78%.

Hecouldreallyusetheafterschoolworktime.Myconcernforhimisthathereallystrugglesstayingontaskbut
Ifeelitisbecausehestrugglesreadingandcomprehendingeventhesimplestofdirections.Ihaveafew
studentsinthatsamepredicament.Cominginhashelpedthemimmensely.ThereismoreoneononetimeAND
nodistractions.
Heissoquietattimes,Isometimesworryifheistooshytoevenaskforextrahelp.Cominginafterschoolcan
helphiminthatareaifheindeedistoobashfultoask.Sometimeswhenastudentgetsfurtherandfurther
behind,thismakesthemfeelevenmoreuncomfortableinaskingforhelp.
Thereisnodoubtheiscapable,buthealsohastobetheonetowanttodotheextraworktohelphimgetby.
Incidentally,doyouhaveOfficeonyourcomputerathome?Hecouldalwaysgetextraworkdoneathomeifhe
needsmoretime.

server.Theseweretwoexercisesthestudentshadtocompletebeforebreak.Ifhecompletedthem,hecan
simplyupdatethemortellmetheyaredoneandhecanalsoputtheminmyDropboxhereatschool.
Everyassignmenttheydoneedstobesubmitted.Routineisthesameasithasbeenallyear.
Nickcangetbehind.SometimesIthinkhestruggleswithreadingandunderstanding,buthealsoallowshimself
togetdistracted.Hewantstobringheadphonestoclassandlistentomusic.Ireallydon'tknowifahavemeta
studentwhocanactuallygetmoredonewhilelisteningtomusicwhenreadingandunderstandingareatstake.
Ifhedoesgetbehind,heshouldstartusingsometimeafterschool.FunnythingisthatitseemsthatIwalkby
himeverydaysittinginthehallwayplayingonhisphonejustwaiting,itappears,whenhecouldcomerightinto
myclassroomandgetextrahelpifneedbe.Doesn'ttakemuch.10minuteshereortherecanbeverybeneficial.
Heiscertainlyagreatkid.Thestudentsgetloadsofinclassworktime.Iknowthatifheusesittohisfull
advantage,hecankeepup.AskhimaboutthoseassignmentsbecauseIknowthatwhentheywereassigned,a
fewstudentsweretryingtoplay"catchup"withsomedelinquentfilesbeforethesemesterended.Hemayhave

beenoneofthosestudents.Iwillalsoaskhimtoresubmitittomorrowifitisdone!
