Events
Picture This

Life, Personal & Social

Science

Team members take turns drawing representations of a set of

scientific terms while other members guess the term being drawn

Anatomy and Physiology

Write it Do it

Understanding the anatomy & physiology of the human

body systems

One student will write a description of an object and how to build

it, and then the other student will attempt to construct the object
from this description

Bio-Process Lab
Lab-oriented competition involving fundamental processes
of a science lab

Physical Science & Chemistry

Disease Detectives

Air Trajectory

Students will use their investigative skills in the study of

disease, inquiry, health and disability in groups of people
with a focus on population growth.

Prior to the competition, teams will design and build a device that
will launch projectiles onto a target

Green Generation

Crave The Wave

Demonstrate understanding of general ecology principles,

the history & consequences of human impact on our
environment and solutions

Competitors must demonstrate knowledge and process skills

needed to solve problems and answer questions regarding all
types of waves & wave motions

Invasive Species

Food Science

Test student knowledge of invasive species in local &

national ecosystems

Understand the science behind milk products and experiment with

ingredients and other variables to produce a dairy product.

Crime Busters

Earth & Space Science

Given a scenario, a collection of evidence, and possible suspects,

students will perform a series of tests to solve a crime.

Dynamic Planet

Wind Power

Complete tasks related to physical & geological

oceanography.

Teams will build a blade assembly that consists of any kind of

propeller/ pinwheel/rotor attached to a compact disc (CD) used to
capture wind power and will be tested on alternative energy
sources.

Fossils
Demonstrate knowledge of ancient life by completing
activities related to fossil identification; answer questions
about classification, habitat, ecological relationships,
behaviors and adaptations.

Technology & Engineering

Meteorology

Bridge Building

Understanding of basic meteorological principles with

emphasis on interpretation & analysis of meteorological
data

Prior to the competition the team designs and builds a bridge that
meets given requirements and achieves the highest structural
efficiency while being tested at an angle.

Reach for the Stars

Elastic Launched Glider

Students demonstrate an understanding of the properties

and evolution of stars

Prior to the tournament teams design, construct and test an

elastic-launch glider to achieve the maximum time aloft.

Road Scholar

Mission Possible

Teams answer interpretive questions that may use one or

more types of maps

Prior to the competition, competitors will design, build, test and

document a Rube Goldberg like device using a series of simple
machines

Scrambler

Inquiry & Nature of Science

Bottle Rocket
Prior to tournament team will construct up to two rockets
designed to stay aloft for the greatest amount time while

Prior to the competition, competitors must design, build and test

one mechanical device which uses the energy from a falling mass
to transport an egg quickly as possible and stops without
breaking.

carrying a raw chicken egg that survives the impact

Experimental Design
Demonstrate ability to design, conduct and report the
findings of an experiment to be conducted at the
tournament
