7- Create a developmentally appropriate art activities

Being creative simulates brain activity. I learning in Chapter 9 of Creative Activities

and curriculum that growth happens in three distinct stages. The first stage is large
to small muscles. The second stage is hand to tow developments. The third stage is
inside to outside. I learned that creating art is a complex mental process. Art is
important for social and emotional growth of children. I learned art helps children
feel successful which then helps them feel sure about themselves. When creating
an art program it should be based on self-acceptance and self-concept. There are
many ways children learn through appropriate art activities. A good rule to
remember when children are developing through art activities is the small the child
the bigger the paper. There are two different ways to incorporate art into an activity
plan; child centered art and teacher directed art. I learned in the article ChildCentered Art VS. Teacher-Directed Projects, that teacher directed art is product
based art. The end product is what is accomplished. This is what most children are
used to in a school setting. Some children need more guidance and directions in art,
some children need structure. Process art supports learning. Process art is child
centered art. By process art you learn more about the child. Process art supports
learning and fosters individuality and self-esteem. Process art is hands on art.
Children learn when they are given the tools they need. I learned it is our job to
supply what they need to keep going. A teachers art activity should be created with
different sensory experiences. I learned there are four stages of art from chapter 11
in Creative Activities and Curriculum for young child. The stages are scribble,
basic forms, pictorial, and gang stage. Scribble helps a child learn motor control. I
learned a good art activity to develop fine motor control is string beads. Each childs
development is different and should progress at their own pace. Process art gives
children the feeling they are important and not the end product. When planning art
activities I learned use many different materials. Finger paint, construction paper,
clays and dough, and graphic arts all help children learn and provide different
sensory experiences. Process art lets children be creative, unique, and original.
Painting with fly swatters, rolling pins with bubble wrap on to paint with, or even just
letting children explore with clay or dough lets their creative minds flow. These
sensory experiences empower children to decide the content. When planning art
activities as well as any activity with children, the plans must incorporate WMELS.
Art breeds creativity, creativity solves problems. Art activities should be based on
the childs level of learning. This can be learned through documentation and
observation of the process art activities. I learned how to compile resources to
support art activities. I have created two resources on Pinterest. I have a resource
file for fine motor arts and one for process arts. Art activity plans will help children
develop and grow. All art activities will be culturally sensitive. I learned that art
helps a child grow physically, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. Through the
different techniques of art children learn to be creative. I learned in the article
Developmental stages of art there are three stages; the scribble stage, the basic
forms stage, and the symbolic stage of art.
