Learning Insight:

Every time we’re having our community exposure, I was often feeling
excited of going to it. There has never been a time that I was bored doing
this thing. Though we often get exhausted with the everyday work and
activities in the community, I already told myself before going in here that
being part of the community isn’t an easy job. It requires a lot from you if
and only if you wanted to really fulfill your purpose of getting there and
exposing yourself into a life that is different from where you came from. The
experiences I have in Buguias were amazing and most of them are
unforgettable in the sense that it doesn’t often happen to me, and I’ve really
enjoyed trying the life in the community. The people are very good and
hospitable. I have never felt that I was a stranger in that place for they treat
you as one of them, a person that is always welcome to come and join the
community life.

It has never been a question for me on what kind of life does every
place we go have for community health nursing. It is because I myself also
live a simple life in our place. However, based on my experience I realized
that despite the kind of life we have, life here in the mountain region is really
different. I can’t say I’m lucky to live in a quite urban community but I was
fortunate though to experience to really have a look on how other people live
their lives on their simple ways. In this place, one really live a happy life in
the absence of amenities or luxuries, having a simple life, a simple job of
gardening that requires a lot of muscle to do was enough for the community
folks and bottom line? They are happy and contented. This is the idea that
amazed me.

During the time when we were having our home visitations, everybody
greats you with a smile in their faces which is a heartwarming experience for
me. It seems like they welcome you as if they knew you already and make
you feel as a member of this community.

There is nothing like touching people’s lives through simple means of

home visiting. Through it, we were able to attend to different household in
the area and meet different people of different personalities. Though there
certain problems we’ve encountered in the community such as some
rejected us during home visits, some were like hiding from us although we
know that they’ve seen us or heard us knocking on their doors. Still, as
health workers in the future we did our best to persuade them that we are
there to promote health and well-being through our teachings and they were
effective. There are a lot more left to do in this place but as we through it,
we are trying our best to give best help that we can do to this community.
But this could only happen if we all work together towards our goal. And for
that very reason why we will go on with our purpose this coming 2nd
semester, especially that it can possibly be our last before graduating.
