Dear ESL students across Canada,

My name is xxxxxx, and I am from Ritas class. I would like to share my

language learning experience with you which is using technology tools to enhance
my program of studies. I have currently learned: prezi presentation, PowerPoint,
online tasks, TMM ect. Using these technology tools have enhanced my language
learning. However, there are some problems I have encountered which I will outline
below.
I didnt have proper computer skills such as ability to be able to focus on the
task itself. Also, I had difficulty completing the tasks because the level was not only
high, but also difficult to understand; moreover, I was unable to complete online work
for lack of time because I have family responsibilities.
I have some recommendation for both here at LTC and adult ESL classes in a
future class when you have the problems as me. First of all, if you dont have proper
computer skills such as ability to type, you should practice your typing skills online
because there are lots of free typing skills website online and practice it as much as
you can. Second, if you have difficulty completing the tasks, you should talk to your
teacher about your problems and why is hard for you, and both your teacher and
your colleagues could discuss with you together to find out solution to the problem.
Third, if you are unable to complete online work for lack of time because you have
family responsibilities, you should talk to your teacher as well, and you should find
out the ways to not only balance your family, but also focus on your study. As my
teacher always say I know you can do it, so you should always trust yourself, then
you do can do it. I hope this recommendation will help you in the future because this
happened to me, and I got help from my colleagues and teacher this way.
Best,

Dear ESL students,

My name is xxxxxx, and I am a student at Red River College in Winnipeg. I
have a good opportunity to study here, and also I am a lucky person because this
college provides not only classroom tasks, but also online tasks, too.
During this term, I was working on different online tasks, such as summary, an
essay writing, and an email. Moreover, my teacher Rita gave me different online
1

tasks about Canadian workplace, employment, requirements and others; therefore, it

was neither hard, nor easy for me. The learning style was appropriate to my level, but
to be honest, I often worked intensively because I have a hectic schedule. I have a
part-time job, family and children. However, I planned organized my daily schedule in
order to complete everything for school and for housework. By the way, no one is
perfect and neither am I. I have some problem with typing because my fingers dont
work fast, and I have difficulty typing, but everything is possible to improve and
learn, so I believe one day I will be good in this field. In addition, I was able to
complete online work, and every day I was working different hours depending on the
tasks; furthermore, I have proper computer skills, which I learned here. I am grateful
for the opportunity to study here and to get more knowledge. I am especially grateful
for all my instructors, who assisted me during these terms.
I would recommend for both future classes at LTC and in adult ESL classes to
take these online classes because they will help you to get personal experience and
can be successful in Canada both in workplace, and in a future life.
Sincerely,
Student #11

Dear ESL students from cross-Canada,

I am a student of intensive English class at Red River College and I feel honored
to be given the chance to share my experiences on online tasks during the past five
months. What we have done this term covered many aspects, not only writing
summaries, paragraphs, essays and emails, but also preparing presentations with
PowerPoint and Prezi. In addition to that, we finished 30-hour online program called
Tell Me More, which provided all kinds of resources to practice as well as evaluate
according to different profession requirements. Now when I recall, I am really proud of
myself for the completion of all online tasks.
As an adult full-time student sitting in classroom, I tried hard to focus on every
day study and complete various online tasks at early stage. Since I had left school for
more than ten years; moreover, I had been in Canada for only two months when I
started classes. It is really difficult to adapt to both different teaching method and
new environment at the same time. Lack of proper computer skills was another
barrier for me. I hadnt created a PPT before and had never heard about Prezi, which
is the necessity to present our ideas. After I overcame these difficulties, I encountered
2

the biggest challenge motivation in the last two months physical issue, together
with the pressure from volunteer work, almost broke me down. I even didnt want to
think of the tasks and left them dormant online for quite a long time.
I believe everyone would face problems such as these, for sometimes online tasks
are like a burden to us. But from my own experience, you can never give up and must
always believe in your own ability. What you can do is beyond your imagination; as a
result, you will benefit from not only the knowledge and skills you gained, but also
the spirit and strength from improving during the process.
Good luck to you all!
Sincerely Yours,

Hi Mary,
I am writing this email to describe the online tasks which I have done in ESL
class for five months. Each student has to complete a variety of online tasks by the
end of term in order to improve four English skills simustanously. By completing the
tasks, you will be able to learn about not only English language skills, but also some
computer techniques such as writing an email, fast typing, making a PowerPoint slide
and etc.
No one can deny the fact that an online task has its own pros and cons. First of
all, you should be familiar with some computer programs like Microsoft office in order
to write your essay or Email in word format, although these online tasks lead you to
learn how to use of this software. Secondly, lack of time was one of the problems that
this made me unable to the tasks within a short period of time because after a full
day in the classroom, I still had to work. Next, lack of computer equipment at home
can impact negatively on completion of tasks before deadline. However, I had a
chance to have a laptop at home which helped me to practice a little more.
Furthermore, some resources were not accessible because of either website
permission or privacy problems. Finally, due to the lack of motivation, some students
were not able to do all tasks but I have done them because the level was neither low
nor high.
Compared to the beginning of the online tasks, I have learnt a lot of
information and skills such as making a prezi and typing properly. In spite of having
3

difficulties which I mentioned above, my English language skills have improved

dramatically. As a recommendation, I would like to say the online tasks should be a
main part of ESL classes not only at LTC, but also all colleges around Canada.

Dear ESL Students,

My name is xxxxxx and I am an ESL student from LTC. Today, I am very excited
to write about my learning experience in this program of studies. I hope you all
enjoyed your learning experience as well. You know, every class has different styles
of learning, so now, I just want to tell you what I have done so far in my classroom.
The teaching pattern was very different and interesting in this class and we did a lot
of class work that included additional online tasks and which was very useful and
helpful. Now, I am going to describe about my learning in speaking, reading, writing
and listening. During this class, we have done many presentations on PowerPoint and
Prezi. Moreover, the online tasks we have done so far include slide share, resume,
summary, paraphrase, essential skills and soft skills in the Canadian workplace, parts
of speech, writing an easy and myriads others on Tell me more. Everything was very
useful and valuable; in addition, we have completed this term successfully and we
gained a lot of information about research and writing. I want to state that every
student should have a chance to do this kind of tasks at any level.
Everyone knows that we have both positive learning impact, but also problems
of learning on how to do these tasks. Therefore, I had some problems in writing;
however, while I was doing my online tasks, I was able to clarify those easily.
However, my main problem was how to put my knowledge in writing. I was always
confused about sentence structure. For me reading and listening were better than my
writing.
Finally, I want to state that to all ESL students across Canada: you all not only
getting learning benefits from class but also increasing your knowledge from online
tasks which is a very valuable and interesting way to learn. Furthermore, I would like
to suggest and recommend to all educators: they should give this type of work to
their ESL students.

In conclusion, I would like to state that these kinds of tasks are not difficult, but
we need to learn how to complete them properly. If you have problems, do not give
up! Keep on learning, and ask for help from our instructors.
Thank you for your time.
Yours Sincerely,

Dear Adult ESL students of national wide,

Hi, I am one of the students in Red River Language Training Centre, and my
name is xxxxxx. Today, I am going to share with you information based on my
experience in ESL class not only in my classroom work but also the online task, which
I did. In classroom, I had done a lot of work like a presentation, group discussion,
grammar, wrote essay and email, hot seat to share my idea and some background
information to classmates, and so on. On the other side, in computer lab, I did so
many online tasks for both my instructors Rita and Hong. The online tasks, I had done
are power point presentation, email writing and essay, a Prezi presentation based on
my volunteer experience, and also Tell Me More.
Now, I am going to explain some of difficulties or problem that occurred when I
completed my work and online tasks. I live with my family and I have full-time job, so
I have very less time to do online tasks at home. However, I completed all online
tasks, which Rita gave us; in addition to that, I did the lowest hours in Tell Me More
online tasks. Moreover, I have problems in how to put proper punctuation and some
verb tenses, and also I have problem in grammar and spelling.

In my opinion, the adult ESL classes of all over Canada are very good for new
immigrants, especially those who come from non-English countries. Those kind of
classes help people to achieve their dream gaols. These classes will be more
developed when advance technology is involved in the future. Based on my
experience and my classmates, the adult ESL classes are prefect destination for
newcomers who want to succeed on their profession.
I hope you will be able to achieve your goals in a short time. Best of Luck.

Regards

Dear ESL students,

My name is xxxxxx, and I am one of the students at the Language Training
centre of Red River College. I am going to share my work with you. Moreover, I would
like to tell you what I did in my online task. We did a myriad of tasks not only in the
class but also online. We did listening, writing, reading and speaking tasks online. In
addition to that, We also did vocabulary and grammar improvement online, as there
was a Rosette portal which includes Tell Me More task by which we did a lot of
listening, speaking, reading and writing tasks to improve our English. Furthermore, we
made presentation slides and presented them online to improve speaking skills. We
did various writing tasks online to improve grammatical knowledge and to improve
punctuation. I am fully satisfied with the completion of the online tasks as they helped
to improve not only my English skills but also Essential skills regarding Canadian
culture.
Following to that, I would like to tell you some problems I faced to complete my
task Nobody is Perfect, Everybody has to do something to be perfect. As Practice
makes everybody perfect. In my case also, I didnt have proper computer skills
because I didnt use computer before coming to Canada. As my home country studies
totally depended on books, there was no use for computer in my field. So, thats why I
am lacking in computer skills. But now, I am able to do computer work as these online
tasks improved some of my computer skills. Moreover, both classwork and daily
online task raised my level of computer skills and also Essential skills. However, some
online tasks are little a bit tough like Prezi presentation for I had never heard about
this presentation site before; therefore I needed help. As a result, I faced problems
when there was a tough task that required strong computer skills.
At the end, I would like to tell you not only my personal experience but also
overall opinion of my colleagues this term. I recommend everyone to take online
classes with full term classes at LTC and in adult ESL classes nationwide to improve
more skills according to the Canadian culture. I learnt a myriad of skills which will be
helpful for me in the future either in class or at work. Moreover, I suggest that
everyone take online classes because sometimes we are unable to understand or do
work in the class, so we can practice that online to improve our skills. I would rather

take next term classes to improve my computer skills more, and stand best in my
future. I would like to recommend to start online classes next term along with English
classes nationwide to help students to improve more English skills. In addition to that,
I would to like to recommend to do more work online as it is the best way to improve
your skills more easily.
Best Regards,

Dear ESL student in Canada,

My name is xxxxxx, and I am from Ritas class which located at Red River
College. Prior to starting to explain my experience in Ritas class, I want to say to you
Best of luck, You made a best decision to learn English. As you know, Canada is a
multicultural country; however, English is still required here. One of the opportunities
that Rita gave to us this term was the opportunity to study online. This means that
after our regular full-time class, we had to complete some task online. Therefore, we
were surrounded by English all days, weekends and sometimes in nights too. In my
opinion, it was a change for all students not only to sink deep in English but also learn
as much as we can. I am going to describe to you both advantages and
disadvantages that online task gave us.
First of all, we started with Tell Me More, and this program taught us many
different things. As a nurse, I chose nurse direction, so I had not only many different
situation that nurses had in their job but also a lot of different solutions in these
situation. Then, Rita introduced to us Learn, and all of us were in shock in the
beginning. However, after through some time, we both understood and accepted this
program, so now, we are experts in Learn. We were showed how to correctly take
notes and be active listeners during a lecture by video. Then, we wrote our feedback
about this video. Next, we learn about summary, inference, and parallelism;
moreover, we got used to applying these concepts in our real life. Prior to referring us
to the volunteer places, Rita taught us online many different things. For example, we
learned how to correctly prepare both a resume and a cover letter, how to apply our
soft and essential skills. Finally, we understood that finding a job is not the problem,
the challenge is to get a promotion on this job, so now, we are ready for real life in
Canada.

In my point of view, Ritas class, online tasks, and many other programs are
very important if you want to be successful in the Canadian workplace. That is way I
not only strongly recommend but also suggest that you make a change, and to study
in a class like this. You can neither be afraid nor doubt, for your teacher can help you
with all challenges. So, good luck!
Sincerely,

Dear ESL Students in Canada,

I am xxxxxx from Ritas class, and I am taking CLB level 6-7 classes from Red
River College.
This course was for five months, and this is the last week of class. We have
complete myriads of tasks online during this term. Online tasks include Power point
slides, Prezi, Tell me more, Weebly and other online tasks. These online tasks not only
increased my knowledge but also improved my vocabulary. I learned about both
Canadian job skills and Canadian culture through online tasks. I am feeling very
satisfied after completing all online tasks, for I gained a lot of information through
that. Prior to making presentations on power point slides, I did not know this
presentation tool; however, now I have this knowledge.
While doing these online tasks, I had faced some problems too such as, too
much information to read and sometimes because of household chores, I did not get
enough time to read the whole information at once. Therefore, it took me a long time
to finish my online tasks before the deadline. Furthermore, sometimes, because of my
pregnancy, I either felt dizzy or sleepy in class. Moreover, sometimes, I found it
difficult to concentrate because of being tired.
In conclusion, these online tasks have had a huge positive impact on me. I
learned and gained a lot of information through them. Furthermore, my
recommendation for what should happen in a future class is that students should
focus more on reading the whole articles to get the whole knowledge, and they
should not copy from other students work. that is how they will learn more, other
than that, for Tell Me More, students should not just concentrate on completing
their hours online; moreover , they should spend time online on the skill in which they

are weaker. Moreover, teachers should hide each students work, so that no one can
copy from each others work. These are my recommendations for future students. I
hope students will like them.

Dear ESL students across Canada,

My name is xxxxxx, and I am also an ESL student. I would like to share my
experience about what I learned from online tasks. I feel great that I finished all my
tasks at the proper time. Now, I will mention what I learned. I learned Prezi,
PowerPoint presentation, tell me more, listening dialogue, research online different
topics, academic, job requirement, listening and note- taking tasks, and modals.
Furthermore, I learned how to use technology properly, and adjust myself according
to the new environment. In addition to that, I would like to mention the problems,
which I faced while doing the online tasks, these are outlined bellow:First of all, I am a full- time student, and I have to manage my time between
study and online tasks. Secondly, I am not strong in typing , so sometimes, it takes
me a long time to finish some tasks. Thirdly, sometimes, in a lab class, the internet is
very slow. If I wanted to watch a video, it took a long time, so I preferred to do these
tasks at home. In addition, some of the tasks were too high level and took me time to
reached and understand the main points. I also found sometimes difficulty
completing, but the topic was really interesting and excellent and i completed them.
Finally, i am not good in computer, but I will try to do my job properly.
As an ESL student, I would like to recommend everyone to use online tasks
because these tasks help us to gain more information about not only English, but also
Canadian job market requirements, cultural difference, and are helpful for us in any
field. As my personal opinion, computer is the latest technology, and if you are not
aware of how to use it, you could not succeed in your life. All my colleagues this term
believe this fact or point that online tasks are not only helpful for us to improve our
writing skills, but also improve our listening, speaking, reading, and typing skills. LTC
and adult ESL classes may try to give preferences to online classes in future, so in my
opinion, these classes are more helpful and meaningful for us to improve all skills,
and specially newcomers to learn English this special and different way. Once again, I
would like to recommend online classes for new immigrants. Thank you.

Dear Newcomer ESL Students,

Hi! My name is xxxxxx. I have studied at Red River College Training Center for
five months. Today, I would like to talk about our online program, which is using
technology tools to improve English skill during this term. In addition that, I have
many online tasks this term, which were making power point slide, listening, taking
some notes and writing paragraph and essay. That was helping to enhance my
English skills and especially writing skill. However, I have some problems when I do
the online tasks. First, I have a part-time job and I usually work on weekend and two
days a week. When I finished my work, I was exhausted. I could not do online tasks
on time. Moreover, some colleagues finished so quickly even though there was still
time to finish it. It made me so stressed; I was rushing to finish it and unable to focus
on the tasks. It means that I made many mistakes and was unable to look over my
work. Furthermore, my laptop sometimes doesnt work, and I have to borrow a laptop
from my friend. Honestly, I had lab classes so I was able to do online tasks. However,
the network was so slow in the lab class. I could not do it; therefore, I lacked
motivation completing the tasks. I would like to share information based on my
experience. If someone wants to take classes at LTC, I strongly recommend not to
work too much after school. You will come to school everyday as full time. It will be
hard and already stressful on your brain. Also, you have to do online tasks. If you
have a job, you would not be able to completely. If you have to do work, you should
work hard on your studies. However, if you would make a time line, you could catch
up and be able to do it. I had a hard time, however I did it. That means, you can do it
too.
Good luck for all your wishes.

Dear ESL student,

10

I have been in Canada for five years and, like every newcomers, I have taken
English courses. I have chosen LTC at RRC because they have not only regular
classes, but also computer classes. As student at RRC, I am currently using
technology tools such as: Tell me more, online discussion forum and different kinds
of online articles. They are helping me improve both my writing skills and reading
skills; in addition to that, I have big chance to improve my communication skills
during our online discussion forum. However, I still have some problems to complete
online work, and I want to both share the experience with you and also try to describe
it.
Unfortunately, I lacked proper computer skills such as ability to type. I was
unable to complete online work on time because I needed a lot of time for typing.
Moreover, my family responsibilities did not allow me the chance to be enrolled in
any additional typing course. However, I am using other technology tools to enhance
my language learning experience in my program of studies. In my opinion, it would
be wonderful and a very helpful idea to change little bit students schedules, and put
one or two hours per week lessons of typing.
As a student in adult ESL classes, I strongly recommend that you enroll at
programs with online tasks like RRC. My recommendation is based on not only my
personal experience and opinion, but also on the overall opinion of all my friends and
classmates. In addition to that, technology tools which are provided by places like
RRC are helping us improve not only our benchmark level, but also improve both our
computer skills and communication skills. Good luck in your future life and big thanks
to my favorite college.

Dear ESL students in Canada,

My name is xxxxxx, and I have learned English at Red River College for one
year. My second term has come to the end, so I would like to share with you my own
experience how I did the online tasks, and used both hardware and software to
enhance my learning. In fact, I had a lot of online tasks which really helped me to

11

improve my English skills. Some of them were difficult, some were easy; therefore, I
would like to describe the specific problems.
In the first place, I used the diverse online educational sources which were
both interesting and informative for me, but I was not able to choose only one. The
reason for this is because I wanted to complete my tasks, so that they are suitable for
the current level. In addition, I had some problems with paraphrasing and using my
own words because my vocabulary is not enough for explaining. To be honest, some
assignments were not so interesting; as a result, I took more time working on them.
However, this had a positive impact because I improved my vocabulary any way. And
one more problem is to work at home because after a full day all of us wanted to
relax. As a matter of fact, this is not problem, it is just a remark. Despite these
comments, I am feeling satisfaction at the successful completion of this term.
In conclusion, using technology tools in the program of studies is really helpful
to us to get new knowledge and develop our English skills. Moreover, you can share
and collaborate online with your classmates. One more recommendation, you need
to use the diversity of sources, explore your classmates tasks, learn from others, and
prepare your own questions before the class. Good luck for learning English!

Hello ESL students across Canada who are using technology tools,

This is xxxxxx in Ritas class at LTC in the Red River College In Winnipeg, MB. I
have been taking CLB 6-7 course with 17 colleagues Monday to Friday from 9:00a.m.
to 2:50 p.m. for 6months at LTC. In addition to that, I have been studying not only tell
me more, but also discussing several online works with on-line program in Red River
College Website. It is really useful to not only learn English but also manage my time
in my daily schedule. Moreover, I can be polishing three-paragraph emails by Ritas
comments about my creation in the on-line platform. Actually, I have gone through
hard time during my class; however, I learned another thing, how to both adjust and
deal with my conflicts not only by myself but also in my family. Therefore, I would like

12

to elaborate on what my problem is while I have been studying English in Ritas class
in this term as well as on what pros of On-line platform is.
Fortunately, I have a great teacher and colleagues, so I had neither problem
with culture nor problem making a friend. Furthermore, I have suitable computer
skills that are sufficient for hand my homework. Just one thing is difficult, and that is
family responsibilities which interfered with not only my mind, but also my soul in
addition to my time. I was struggling with why I am here before I found solutions. The
rationale behind landing in Canada with my children is because, I wanted to take
good care of my two sons rather than living in Korea as well as spend more time with
them after school. However, this term, I had to study and handle both a full day in the
classroom and extra time on-online tasks. The first moth, I managed my time without
my family agreeing. As a result I received various complains from my two kids and we
had a conflict about time management. After shaving our opinions, we got not only a
satisfied solution but also realistic blueprints for our future. After our meeting, we
attempted to keep our promise as well as encourage each other to reach good
results. Maybe, we became like a crew as a family where everyone had time for their
tasks. Otherwise, the on-line platform is possible to share not only our articles but
also our opinions. So, I could learn both writing skill and process of thinking about
specific issues from my classmate. Moreover, submitted assignments were modified
by Rita, and I could rewrite it. It is true that my writing skill is developed by the online tasks.
It does not matter that you have a family or children. It is not easy to study
English as an immigrant. In my opinion, you should not only have confidence but also
encourage yourself as you can do everything. You would not hesitate to take an
English course with the on-line class. It will help that you have gorgeous English skills
as soon as possible as well as you stretch your abilities in your field. A a result, I
strongly recommend not only students in LTC but also adult ESL students in Canada
to take an English course, for you will be able to learn both knowledge and wisdom in
your future. Good luck for you.
Kind Regards,
Student #7
