INTRODUCTION (whole class)

An important part of drama is creating characters

and portraying emotions and feelings. Today we are
going to look at emotions and do a silent Pantomime
having the class guess the emotion. The purpose of
this exercise is to replicate and gain an
understanding of emotions in an attempt to harness
them for positive outcomes.

EXPLICIT TEACHING (whole class)

To act different emotions you need to understand

how it not only makes you feel but how it changes
your voice, mannerisms, what you say and what you
do. Example Anger in a happy voice.
10min

GUIDED DISCOVERY (whole class)

Try and remember a time that you were really happy! How
did it change the way you moved, talked, looked and what
you did? Brain storm scenarios that might make someone
feel angry!

3 EXPLORATION/PRACTICE(group/individual)
Hand out emotion cards to pairs. They must use their
entire body to display this emotion. Think about actions
and facial expressions. They must additionally brainstorm
a scenario that was the cause of this emotion.

CONCLUSION (whole class share/reflect)

We feel differently minute of every day. Learning to
understand and control our emotions is useful in drama
when we want to tell a story or create a character. Discuss
about how it can help us to control our reactions to certain
events.
