Laboratory: Drug Eluting Stents
1. DES reduce restenosis compared to BMS in ELECTIVE PCI
2. DES in STEMI undergoing primary PCI
a. TYPHOON: Reduction in reinfarction, death and target vessel
revascularization (need to revascularize a lesion anywhere within
a vessel with a stent or its branches due to restenosis) at 1 year
with DES compared to BMS. Similar rate of thrombosis.
b. PASSION: No difference in death, reinfarction or TVR at 1 year
between DES and BMS.
c. HORIZONS-AMI: Reduction in target lesion revascularization (need
to revascularize a lesion anywhere within a stent or its margins
due to restenosis) at 1 year between DES and BMS. No difference
in death, reinfarction, stroke or stent thrombosis.
d. 2009 Meta analysis including TYPHOON, PASSION, HORIZONS-AMI:
Reduction in TVR at 1 year between DES and BMS. No difference
between death, MI, stent thrombosis at 1 year.
