Art 133

Art making is an expression of ideas that relates to a persons life
and the lives of others. Big ideas help students gain an approach on
how they will express themselves through their artwork. It gives
students a direction in development on what the artwork is aiming
towards. Developing a big idea should be broad enough for every
student to understand. It is important that the student can personally
relate to the idea that is at hand. (Walker, 2001) Many examples of big
ideas may include, life and death, power, or self-identity. Though there
are many big ideas to start students in an art making direction, the big
idea for this paper is identity and how to let students find their own
identity through art.
Developing an expression for self-identity can be to present art
as a part of students lives. According to Parsons (2004), The goal for
students through their learning to construct a consistent picture of
their world and their place in it, especially by making sense of their
own experience and life- world. (pg. 11) Like in the studio that is
expressed for class this week, the students need to take pictures of
objects, wall space, and identity. By giving students the free will to take
pictures of what they choose, it begins to show students interests,
which soon turns into the identity of who and what the student is.

Depending on the pictures chosen, it beings to give and show students

their self-identity.
