    Preparatorysince2009.BeforeenteringPineLakeIattendedWoodlandHeightsElementary
    School.Iamtheyoungestinafamilyoffour.MyoldersistergraduatedPineLakein2012.

    ThroughouthighschoolIhaveworkedasababysitterfortwofamilies.AtPineLake,Ihave
    beenaclassrepresentativeforspiritclubforfouryearsandamemberofbetaclubforthree
    years.IwasalsoinductedintotheNationalHonorsSociety,NationalSocietyForHighSchool
    Scholars,andThespianSociety.IwasamemberofPineLakescheerteamforfiveyearsand
    earnedmyvarsityletterduringmyfreshmanyear.Icontinuedtobeavarsityathletethroughmy
    junioryearandwasnamedanAllAmericanCheerleader.Overall,participatinginthesegroups
    andsocietieshastaughtmeleadership,dedication,andpersistence.

    MyPrideProjecttopicisElementaryEducation.Ichosethistopicbasedonmyloveforworking
    withchildren.ThroughmyresearchIdiscoveredtheimportanceofinfluentialadvisorsandthe
    growingneedforspecializededucation.However,Ialsolearnedofthecompetitivenesswithin
    theteachingfieldandtheinadequatepay.BasedonthesefactorsandrecentlifeexperiencesI
    havedecidedthatIwillpursueabachelor'sdegreeinpsychologyandgoontogetamastersin
    sportspsychology.

    FormyPrideProductIwilldesignalessonplanandteachittoasecondgradeclass.Basedon
    mynewdecisiontopursueapsychologydegreeincollegemymentor,SherryWentzle,has
    helpedmedevelopaplanthatinvolvesbothelementaryeducationandpsychology.Thelesson
    planwilltestandimprovethechildren'smemoryskills.OnceintheclassroomIwillgivethe
    childrenapretesttodeterminewhatleveltheirmemoryisat.Next,Iwillteachthemsimple
    techniquestoenhancetheirmemory.Finally,Iwillgivethemaposttesttodeterminehow
    effectivethetechniqueswere.Iwillconductthepretestandposttestbydisplaying1520small

    objects(examples:aneraser,apaperclip,arubberball,etc.)andallowingthechildrentolook
    overthemforapproximatelyoneminute.Forthenextminutetheobjectswillbecoveredandthe
    childrenwillbeaskedtowritedownasmanyobjectsastheycanremember.NextIwillremove
    57itemsfromthedisplayandaskthechildrentodeterminewhichobjectsaremissing.The
    techniquesIteachthechildrenwillbethingslikecreatingpicturesintheirhead,organizinglists,
    usingacronymsandacrostics,etc.Ihopetoseeasignificantincreasefromthepretesttothe
    posttest.Overallthelessonplanshouldtakeapproximatelyfourhoursofclassroomtime.
    ThroughoutmymentorhoursIplantotakepicturesandvideostodocumenttheprocessof
    workinginandinstructingaclassroom.Iwillpresentthisalongwithacopyofthelessonplan,
    thechildrenswork,andtheresults.Mygoalistohavemymentorhoursandproductcomplete
    bytheendofDecember,2015.Mypersonalgoalforthisprojectistomakeadifferenceinthe
    livesofthechildrenIworkwith.Ihopetoteachthemsomethingnewandprovidethemwith
    lifelongskills.
