Problem:

A 50 cm 20 cm hot plate is maintained at a temperature of 300C while air at 25C is blown

past the plate. Under these conditions the convection heat transfer coefficient is 20 W/m2 K.
Determine the rate of heat transferred to the air from the hot plate.

Solution:
The rate of convection heat transfer is given by
qc = hAT = 20 0.5 0.2 275 = 550 W

Problem:
In a steam radiator saturated steam at120C flows through a carbon steel ( = 54 W/m K) tube of
1.5 cm ID and 2.5 cm OD. The radiator is placed in a room in which the air is at 5C.The
convection heat transfer coefficient between the condensing steam and tube and the rate of heat
transfer from steam to air per metric length of the tube.
