responses to these texts, making connections with students' own experiences

students own and others' ideas in discussions (ACELY1666)

Students will engage with the book Wilfred Gordon McDonald Patridge to encourage
reflection on their personal experiences
Students will use capital letters and full stops in writing about their own experiences

INTRODUCTION (whole class)


Have students come in and sit on the floor
Show them the book Wilfrid Gordon McDonald
Partridge
Ask them some opening questions about their
experiences with older people, what makes the
older people they know special, what activities
they do together, talk about, how spending time
with an older person is different/the same as a
younger person.

Read the story to the class, encouraging

Discuss important memories and things that are
important to the students
Discuss Wilfreds friendship with Miss Nancy
Pose questions such as,
-How did Wilfred show kindness toward Miss
Nancy? How did he help her?
-What were some things that Wilfred and Miss
Nancy had in common?
Ask students to reflect on a time that they helped
somebody or did something caring for someone
Give the students an example of a time that you
did something nice for someone

EXPLORATION/PRACTICE(group/individual)
Show students the kind hearts shapes
Explain that students are going to write a
sentence about a time that they did something
caring for somebody
Hand out the hearts for students to take one and
pass it on
Ask students with an o in their name to move to
their desks, an e, and an a
Give the students time to work on this activity
Gain students attention once people begin to
finish their writing, explain that once they are
finish that they can begin to draw a picture in the
available space

Clap your hands and ask students to return to the
floor with their heart
Ask a few students to share their caring heart and
the experience that they reflected on
Ask the students to compare what they did to
what Wilfred did in the book
