Checkfordisability.Disabilityreferstodamagetothespinalcordorneck.Check
toseeifthevictimcanmovehandsandfeet.Ifnot,theremaybeaninjurytothe

spinalcord.Deformityreferstothingssuchascompoundorobviousfractures,
dislocations,oranythingthatlooksoutofplaceorunnatural.Ifthevictimshowssignsof
disability,youshouldrefrainfrommovinghimorher.

Checkforexposure.Alwayslookforanexitwound.Checkthevictimas
thoroughlyaspossibleforotherwoundsthatyoumaybeunawareof.Payspecial

attentiontothearmpit,buttocksorotherdifficulttoseeareas.Avoidcompletely
undressingthevictimbeforeemergencyhelparrivesasthismayadvanceshock.

Elevatethelimbandapplydirectpressuretothewound.Carefullyassessthe
situationtodeterminethatthereisnosignofdisabilityoranywoundsthatwould
