• We talked last week about how we usually get

angry over things that don’t really matter
• We also fight over some really dumb things
• What makes God angry? What is God willing
to fight for or about?
• We tend to have “me-focused” faith
• We focus on getting saved, delivered,
comforted, peace, and guidance

• What does it mean to accept the Gospel?

• Part of salvation is personal, but that isn’t the
complete story
• God saves us to be part of a new community
and movement to bring restoration to the world
• If the leaders of the civil rights movement only
viewed the problem as personal, would things
have ever changed?

A man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in

Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that
we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the
law, because by observing the law no one will be justified
(Galatians 2:16 NIV).

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this

not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that
no one can boast. For we are God’s workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in
advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:8-10 NIV).

1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Leave your country, your

people and your father's household and go to the land I will

show you. 2 "I will make you into a great nation and I will bless
you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I
will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will
curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you."

• We are saved in order to do good works

• Jesus was the ultimate piece of a HUGE plan of
God to restore the world after it was broken by
sin
• Jesus was part of Abraham’s distant family and
his death and resurrection made it possible for
all people (Jew & Gentile) to find God

• Being “justified” isn’t about getting a ticket to

heaven, it’s about being included as part of God’s
people and being a blessing to others
• Becoming a Christian means signing on for a
restoration project
• This view changes how we see everything else:
the Cross, the Church, etc.
• It also transforms our anger…
