Take Spannenburg as an example

So your melody notes in order would be:
E, B, A, G, G, E, G, B, G, D, G
Set your rhythm to the lyrics and you have a melody. Tweak it if it needs
it. You can then do things like use the melody note in retrograde for the
chorus. It will sit in the same tonal centre and should work well to give
you both unity and contrast.
