Purpose: The purpose of this course is to introduce engineering students to fundamental but more
advanced topics in applied mathematics. The course covers a wide variety of topics to meet the demands
of the different research areas in ASE/EM; however, there are recurring themes throughout the course.

Homework: Suggested homework problems will be given weekly on Blackboard. Solutions to the
homework problems will be made available. Homework will not be graded but will make up an integral
part of the exams.
Exams: There will be three exams held during the semester. Times TBA. The third exam will be
held during the final exam period. Each exam is worth 1/3 of your final grade.
Evaluation plan: The course and instructor will be evaluated at the end of the semester using the
approved MEC form.
