Students Activity

A. Activity
So class, I prepared a minus
one
song
entitled
(post
visuals) Firework by Katy Perry.
Are you familiar with this
song?
Thats great, so later on we
are going to sing this song and
at the same time you have to
concentrate on the lyrics for
Im going to ask some
questions later, okay?

Yes Maam

Ok Maam(they
straight)

sit

down

(They sing it in acapella)

Okay, before we sing with

music, please sing the first
stanza to chorus in acapella.
So at the count of three, one
two three.
Alright, now are you ready to
sing it with music, class please
listen carefully in the music
ok?(Im going to play the
music.)
Okay class give youre selves
round of applause.

(They listen carefully to it and

sing gracefully.)

(They give their selves a round

of applause.)

B. Analysis
So did you like the song
class?
Let us see, who can give her
favourite line in the song?(I
will call a name)
How can you relate your own
story with the message of the
song?
Thank you very much
Moving on, class I want you
to look at this image. So as a
literal definition this is what?
Now class what words can
you associate with apple?
Very good, next image is
literally define as white dove,
so what words can you
associate with it?
Great answers, thus as we
identify the meanings of the
apple and white dove you will
notice that we used 2 ways for
each one which are the
denotation and connotation
meaning.
Now, class do you think that
the song has the words/ideas
that
have
deeper
interpretation? (I will call a
name.)
How can you say so that the

Yes Maam
(He/she explains it.)

(He/she relates his/her own

experience with the song.)
(He/she takes his/her sit.)
That is a fruit Maam

(They raised their hands and

answered.)

Yes Maam it has.

Maam it is because some of

the words/ideas in the song
dont have literal meaning.
Some of them raised their
hands.

song has the words/ideas that

have deeper interpretation?
Correct! So class here are
four cited lines from the song.
now let us identify if it really
have connotation meaning.(I
will call a name)
Therefore class what do you
call the forms of expression
that
have
connotation
meaning
which
gives
us
deeper interpretation.

Maam our lesson figures of

speech

C. Abstraction

Superb! So our lesson today

is about figures of speech
which are the forms of
expression
that
have
connotation meaning or give
us deeper interpretation.

So class at the end of this

lesson, you should be able to:
1. Identify the meaning of simile,
metaphor, oxymoron, paradox,
hyperbole and onomatopoeia and
how can you effectively use all of
it in your writings.
2. Demonstrate an understanding
of the lesson through group
activity which is writing a poem.
3. Share your experiences related
to the
song which
have
the
simile,
metaphor,
oxymoron, paradox, hyperbole,
and onomatopoeia.
Alright, now everybody eyes
on the board. Simile is a
literary technique that is used
to
compare
two
unlike
concepts in all aspects. It
usually carried with words as

(They are listening.)

(He/she cites some similes

from the song.)
(He/she gives his/her example

or like.
So who can cite some similes
from the song? (I will call a
name.)
Can you give your own
example of simile?
Ok class lets give him/her 5
claps
So metaphors dont keep the
unlike
concepts
but
considering that they are
one. For example
John's words were shards of
glass when he spoke such
hateful things.

of simile.)

Maam the two the unlike

concepts that merge as one
are Johns words and shards of
glass.

(He/she gives his/her

example of metaphor.)

own

Ok, who can mention the two

the unlike concepts that
merge as one? (I will call a
name.)
Exactly, which means Johns
words remains when he spoke
such hateful things.

(He/she gives his/her example

of oxymoron.)

So who can give an example

of metaphor?

Ok class lets give him/her 5

claps
Furthermore, oxymoron is the
combination of words that have
opposite
meanings.
For
examples

less more

living dead

light dark

Who can give an example? (I

will call a name.)
Ok class lets give him/her 5
claps
Next is paradox which is the
contradicting ideas that seem
impossible but are actually true

(He/she construct his/her own

hyperbole example)

Yes Maam, the line in the

or possible. For example

If you wish to preserve your

secret wrap it up in frankness.

Moving forward, hyperbole is

the use of language that is over
statement
or
full
of
exaggeration. For example

song that imitates sound is

Boom
Maam boom sounds like a
fire work.
Examples of onomatopoeia
are boom, pak, clang, pop,
and etc. Maam

I went home and made the

biggest sandwich of all time.

Old Mr. Johnson has been

teaching here since the Stone
Age.

Ok, who can give their own

hyperbole example? (I will
call a name.)
Ok class lets give him/her 5
claps
Lastly, onomatopoeia is the
creation of words that imitate
natural sounds.
Can
you
please
cite
onomatopoeia from the song?
So it sounds like what?
Alright, can you give other
examples (I will call another
name.)?
Very good!

D. Application
So, any question class?
Ok class group your selves
into five then form a circle
immediately.
Now lets start, please pass
these rubrics.
So you are going to write a
poem by group. Your theme is
anything under the sun but
make sure you will effectively
use
simile,
metaphor,
oxymoron,
paradox
and
onomatopoeia. Then use the
given rubrics as your guide.
Since every group have their

(They group themselves into
five then formed a circle.)
(They passed the rubrics)

copies, everybody please read

the rubrics silently.
Any question class?
Then I am giving you five
minutes to have a meeting
about your theme and you
better get started because
later on you are going to
present that. Is that clear?
Everyone please participate
and have cooperation with
your group mates, ok you may
now start.
(After five minutes), Class you
may now arranged your chairs
and sit down properly. Then,

None so far Maam

Yes Maam its clear (They
get started...)
