In the film Freedom Writers many themes were demonstrated,

but the two themes that really stand out to me are trust and respect,
and equality in the classroom. Trust and respect is something every
teacher needs to work for and it isnt something that is given by each
student when they walk threw the door. In order to have an effective
classroom teachers must gain the respect of their students and trust.
In a way teachers need to become vulnerable with their students, Mr.
Blythe is the teacher of the class I am observing, and every morning he
tells them about his night and what he did. He is very open and honest
to his students and I believe that the children respect and trust him for
it. But respect and trust is just one of the many things that need
encouraged in the workplace.
Teachers should promote equality in every classroom, and it
should be practiced everyday so every student feels like their voice
matters and that their diversity should not stand in their way to being
equal. If equality is always being applied it will become a norm and
students will feel will feel welcome, safe, and have a sense of
belonging. I attend a grade two/three split class for my practicum and
within the classroom there are different ethnicities, and one day they
were creating avatars for an online presentation. The app they were
using literally had every shade of skin, hair, and eye color accessible to
them. I really enjoyed that they had so many options so they never
once felt left out or not equal. Having equality in the classroom is
very important because it can help reduce more problems such as
racial tension, violence, and adversity. But as much as equalities are
the ideal, sometimes there are inequalities in the education system.
Being from a small town I was never really exposed to ethnic
inequalities, everyone was very equal cultural wise, but was very
diverse when it came to sports and academics. I think from coming
from a very sheltered small town, I was in my own bubble when it
came to different cultures. Being the Anthropologist in the
Anthropology game really made me realizes that I have been so
accustomed to my own cultural, it is hard to believe that there are so
many diverse cultures in our world. I almost feel being from a small
town in an inequality in its self because I was never educated on
diverse cultural because my teachers would have never felt the
pressure of having to incorporate different lesson material in literature
or history because we were all same. I believe as teachers even if they
is not cultural or ethnic diversity in the classroom the students should
still be aware and educated so when they enter the real world they are
accepting and not prejudice.
